How do names work?

Since I made my characters I have wondered how names work. When you add someone to your friends list it also gives your their handle name. Does this mean that you can use any name you want since everyone has a different handle?

    Yes, you can use any name you want, even names of others you've seen as it's the @account-name that matters.

    Right click on your portait it should say "name@handle"

    It's also the username you use to log into the game with.

    Its a shame more games dont use this system. And even more so that most folks don't seem to be aware of how unrestrictive it is.

    It still gives me a sad chuckle when I see folks with names like <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font><name><font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>. As if expecting the name alone, and by itself, to be rejected without even so much as trying.
