Mounts? do they do anything?

Ok I have been really tight with spending my coppers (no buying health potions and running back to the campfire to get healed) and I thought to myself why? do mounts do anything bar getting you to A to B faster?
So do mounts do anything else?
If not Iam sure happy I didn't spend 200 bucks on a sparkle spider :p.

    Yeah, well. Gotta admit the sparkle spiders are kewl. I know there was more than one nergasm from the Drizzt fanbois.

    also with fast mount you have much lower agro to NPCs (they always need second or two to react, with mount you are gone by that time). Using horse to get past groups of mob I would need to fight otherwise (and they are really persistent with following you so generaly very bad idea to try outrun them without mount).

    Just WOW copies have mounts out-of-nowhere, capable only to go faster, and diminishing to oblivion when you get out (also unusable action system instead of proper market and tiered craft, which is completely useless until maxed out) :)

    OOO, what MMO has these mounts that you speak of? My speeder in KOTR never attacked anyone.
