epic lock boxes olny pay to open?

So are the epic locked ..boxes from random loot olny pay to open? Or is there different ways to get keys you need to open them?

    You can get keys for Astral Diamonds off the AH from others who bought them with Zen.

    You buy keys with zen or you buy the keys from the auctioneer from other players by using the crystals.

    so, in ohter worlds - keys arrive into the game only by real money..

    Obviously, the game is free to play and has to make money somehow

    You don't need to force your player into your cash shop to make money. Look at path of exile, that game is the perfect exemple of doing cash shop right. People spend money in GGG's cash shop because they want to support the game, not because they have to

    No one is forced into the cash shop you don't have to open lock boxes and if you but don't want to spend money then just grind for dimonds.

    You do realize that grinding for diamonds, is still exchanging them for either zen which someone payed for with cash, to buy keys out of the zen shop.

    Lock boxes are supposedly on a different loot table, so do not affect your normal looting. I believe the "main prize" is a mount (the hellish looking horse), I believe there is nothing in them you can not get other ways, except maybe specific designs, ie the you can get horses other ways, but not the nightmare looking one. If you not after that then do not buy keys for these.
    Personally I am not keen on this mechanic, I would perfer a potion of better loot or something such like.

    So what? You are still not being forced to open the boxes and if you CHOOSE to grind for diamonds and buy the keys that way you are buying those keys from people who CHOOSE to buy them with Zen. Either way no one is in anyway forced to do anything.

    or they run out of stash space and need more. a LOT more.

    path of exile is also seen by many as an inaccessible game due to the daunting skill...forest...and difficulty curve. it's going to remain niche for a very long time. there are only like two people on twitch who even stream it anymore.

    Yes finally a game that doesnt cater tot eh casual majority. Can't say the same about 99% of the games on the market.

    A lot of people overlook that feature.
