Would a pure ice CW be viable?

Not really into the whole lightning and arcane thing. Was hoping to get some insight on a pure ice mage if possible.

MM is really the main source of damage, so if you did not use it, I don't really think you would have a viable build.

No reason he can't. Chilling cloud on one button and MM on the other. He gets a lot more control out of cold spec sacrificing a little bit of feat bonuses on arcane stacks. Better equipped to handle trash but not a punisher on bosses.

Theres a couple of feats that buff up chilling cloud to do decent single target dps as well as keeping the dmg debuff up 100% of the time. The debuff alone sounds like it would be worth the dps loss on end game bosses

MM is arcane and he said he wants to be pure ice-based, so I thought he would not use it. If he does use MM, anything will work.

Pure Cold build CW is mainly for control purposes. I was building for Arcane / Lightning beczuse ti works good for while I am soloing.
But, after fighting in the Lair of the Mad Dragon over and over I have found that cold spells can lock down multiple clusters of foes at once as well as continue to chain CC the elites that spawn.

You won't be topping the DPS chart but that isn't really your role anyway. I mean hell we are called CONTROL wizards not WAR.
Icy Terrain is a very underrated spell imo. Chilling Cloud as well. I am waiting until I get high enough to use Ice Ray and Steal time.

Right Now I go between using Icy Terrain Chill Strike Entangling Force Conduit of Ice and MM and FR. Counduit of ice in Tab slot along with Icy terrain will pertty much insta freeze(well takes about 2 or 3 secs) the entire group since icy terrain immobilizes them for that short time. Throw out 1 chilling cloud combo or tap freeze ray on all of them for 1 hit.

You can entangling force the elites that are on the terrain the build chill and just before entangling wears off hit them with freeze ray to block em up in ice.

I have also found out that i should stop gearing towards crit, I think I am going to try a recovery heavy build.

Anyone else have thoughts on a pure control build?

Does Chilling Cloud end up doing more damage than Ray of Frost? I'd check myself but, ya know. That queue.

LOL yea im stuck in queue too. I am not sure, I think it has the potential since the last hit is an AoE and a lot of Feat(paragon) buffs to it. I like it solely for the dmg debuff and aoe chill stacking. Works great with conduit and icy terrain

I'm trying to remember what exactly the debuff is. Is it more than just chill? I've stayed away from chilling cloud so far due to the fact that ray of frost stacks chill quicker so I can pop conduit but I haven't properly had a chance to play around with chilling cloud.

There's little if anything else worth slotting besides MM. The cold ray is pretty meh. He doesn't want the storm one (and it sucks,) so not much left but to slot MM and keep it handy for bosses since chill doesn't affect them.

Exactly. MM is the only truly good At-Will ability. RoF is a far off second. Every other At-Will is, ah, not impressive. :)

Yeah generally MM seems to be a hands down choice no matter what build you are choosing.
