So i bought the HOTN pack and got right into the game on Thursday i made my Drow got my gear and went questing. From playing in beta weekend 3 I know what a pet/ Companion is supposed to act like. And i was VERY disappointed at the panther. I would be fighting a large group of enemies And guess who was just sitting there licking himself while i got my butt kicked. So i decided ill just wait till my Guardian of Neverwinter friend gets on Saturday and see how his dire wolf is. Are you kidding me! I payed $200 Dollars for a reason God dammit! And the freaking Dire wolf is like 4 times better then the Pea brain panther. The Dire-Wolf does like 350 Damage and level 14, The panther does 100 at level 14. What kind of HAMSTER is that. Not only does he do very little damage But he just sits there like and idiot licking himself while i fight half the time. He is the WORST companion. he should not suck this much Its makes no sense that the $60 dollar pet is better then the $200 that's HAMSTER!

Side note: I also hate the dust of creation its pointless and dumb.

One thing I do wonder is how Cryptic allowed the panther to be so limp since it's so obvious. I've also noticed that the panther will often just sit there licking himself while I'm doing the fighting. He takes his sweet time and by the time he starts to do the pounce animation, I've already finished off the enemy. I do wish there was an attack command that I could point the companion to start attacking.

Tsts, your should know that all companions have some issues. I play a CW and my direwolf sometimes doesn't engage a enemy on range. It seems if I hit some mobs from range with e.g. Magic Missle he ignores the mobs until the close in.

The good point is the are very well aware of it and working on it. If you follow the game over the last few month you should know that all companions have this kind of problem and here have a cookie.

Thanks for the feedback on companion AI everyone. I’m the designer primarily working on companions, and I’m excited that you guys feel companions are as important to the game as we do. It is crucial for the overall design of companion behavior to enhance the immersion of action combat. Therefore many of the decisions we have made, and will make, are intended to ensure that companions contribute positively to the combat experience. Rest assured that we are listening and we will be working to improve companion behavior up to launch and beyond. I look forward to hearing more ideas about what you want companion behavior to feel like in Neverwinter!

im sure there are pets for F2P folks. You can pretty much get anything in STO that more affluent players buy if you are willing to grind.

LOL Relax? That was a standard politician/dev canned statement. It has absolutely no indication of anything beyond "we're listening".

I have seen the same thing as you with my DC and wolf pet. So I don't think its the panther so much but rather buggy pet control.

There is a red tag post about them. Supposdly the panther and dire have same dps but the dire does a knock back. I have both and much prefer the dire.

Yep I've seen my dire wolf chilling while mobs are in my face, so i'm pretty sure its more of the 2 companion issues rather than the panther alone. pathing are also a problem as they may get "stuck" on uneven ground or stairs.

The problem with the Wolf and probably the Panther as well is that if you have the Founder pack weapon on at low levels you oneshot everything and the pet has no time to react. As your levels get higher it starts being more useful.

I will say the knock back with the dire wolf is probably the greatest thing ever.

This is my only quarrel with the companions. Non melee hits... Glad they are on the case on this. I like my Dire Wolf more than my panther, but it seems the panther is more responsive than the wolf at times. But my Phoena or whatever fire bird reacts fine.

Except in dungeons, where 4 people with dire wolves is enough to generate absurd knock back (often into geometry).

Yeah "standard companions" in dungeons are a bit annoying. One reason why I spent the 600k Astral Diamonds from my Guardian + a bit of Zen (exchange 1:500) and got the Cat for 980k Astral Diamonds. Extra Crit/Recovery and it stays out of the way. :)

I use my direwolf for solo play but for a group setting you should use IMO a Cat/Ioun Stone, except you don't have a tankcleric. ;)

You should get a free pet from one of the NPCs at level 16.

Panther has serious trouble, direwolf will usually engage after enemies come in range. Noticed direwolf does seem to hit harder than panther currently. There are 2 non combat companions that give stat boosts, ioun stone of might for trade bars and the cat for AD. No matter if you're a founder or a f2p player, I'd continue leveling your favorite companion as the AI is being looked at. Whether you like the response from the developers or not, it will get fixed at some point. When? Who knows. At least you can have your preferred companion maxed out and ready for when it will become truly useful. Until then I see the majority of folks going for non combat companions as a main companion. Wish they'd bring back the ioun stone of allure.
If you can't be constructive in your criticism, go back to world-of-whiners.

Customer
a person who purchases goods or services from another; buyer; patron.

So pets for non paying players. =P
And yes you can, better than the wolf and cat even.

Actually I could not use my preferred pet because they removed it from the Zen vendor. I wanted a Tomb Spider, i used it in beta 2 and 3 and I really liked it. But the problem was it was listed as a "controller" and it had no control abilities.

But I still want one, hoping that they bring it back soon.
