Before purchasing mount training...

Realize that an account-wide mount unlock for rank 3 costs 4,000 Zen = 2,000,000 AD (at 500:1 exchange rate). The cost for upgrading a single mount (rank 2 and rank 3 training) in-game is 2.8 million (and cannot be used account-wide).

Yeah, the costs of high end items in the Zen shop, AD merchants, and such are just insane. At this point I doubt I'll progress my characters that far. I'll play off and on and throw them a few bucks here and there like STO.

Of course the "smart" way would be get Zen now and get your 2m AD and then convert them back to Zen when the market stable.

Micro-transactions are dead. Welcome to the era of macro-transactions.

This thread wasn't a "bash Cryptic prices" discussion. The subject isn't near and dear to Founders, since these things are given to them, but I did want to post the information so that people are aware that the AD costs per character aren't sustainable, and to take advantage of the AD > Zen discrepancy.

Basically, buying things for Zen is cheaper. Don't save for Zen (even at 500:1) to get the in-game mount upgrade. Rather, purchase from the store.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be negative. I'm just being honest. It's not something I'm even considering spending on at this point.

If I'm playing a game actively (it's my primary game focus) then I typically spend $40 - $80 every 3 - 6 months depending on how much I get into it. Having super expensive pricing with the idea of having whales fund the game doesn't appeal to me at all.

I do appreciate the heads up because it is a good warning, but I just can't see entertaining such high prices.

Same here, Cryptic were the first MMO company I became a customer of back in Paragon City so they still have that goodwill from me. But the pricing of games across the board with supposed "micro"-transactions have gotten out of hand. What started off as a good idea of paying a pound or two for minor stuff like skins or player models has turned into paying large sums for non-content like mounts, inventory space and respecs with still absurd prices for side or even main content. :(

And it's backed by systems that are designed to make you feel like you need to pay, even if you don't want to.

Yeah, I just don't want people to stop thinking about exchange rate.

Someone looking at getting a R3 mount in-game might grind away for months to get it with AD, when they will probably need a few weeks once it's at 200:1 exchange rate.

Most people won't mentally connect the currencies, and I wanted to get the message out that it's a better buy to transfer straight to Zen.

Wait, I think I get what you mean now. I take it no real money purchase of Zen is involved and instead pool all your grinded AD into Zen to buy all unlocks at once?

Correct. Save 3 million for a single in-game horse mount with spots/brown.

Or save 2 million, turn it into Zen, and buy an account-wide howler mount.

That is what I'm suggesting. If you DO want to buy Zen, take advantage of the high exchange rate and later exchange it BACK to zen (essentially doubling your zen after the market stable like 250:1 or 200:1)

That'd be a waste of money if I hate the game. Still have 1000ZEN sitting in my STO account and the game was scoured from my hard disk.

You're getting it just by playing, without paying a dime. AD is AD. You get it for praying, for profession rewards, for finishing a skirmish...

All I'm saying is: Don't buy stuff for AD in game. Transfer it to Zen and buy it there. You'll save time and money.

I'm talking to Sasheria about buying large quantities of virtual currency to take advantage of the exchange rates later. Your idea is a good one, the buying of ZEN idea is not considering the game is utterly unproven and new.
