Just say what the besst roll from 12 possible values? (NWwiki)
So NW wiki show the 12 possibles but don't show the all point amount :)
do you know if you roll the max amount the primary stat you will lose 3-4 overall point..
just check the image: nwroll_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg

I think 16-16-12-10-10-10 is the best combination. Strong main score and one secondary score, and others are pretty balanced. The increase in ability scores at level 30 is going to push them all over 10, which is neat. Heck, even the campfire buff already pushes them over 10.

This is 72 point.
But you can release 1 main stat and make 17 13 13 11 11 10 this is 75.
so diference " 1 0 0 0 0 0 vs 0 0 0 1 1 2"

ya but you have to weight the stat's because some are obviously going to be more useful to you than others depending on your class.

you lose "overall points" but the points you gain give you almost no return

I'm in the 18, 13, 13, 10, 10, 8 camp too, though the difference is minor at the end (there was some math posted in the old class forums), just less minor than the advantage from going with a lower main stat for a few extra points in the trivial stats.

Depends on class. CW is primarily benefited by INT and CHA. DC, however, gets better returns from WIS CHA and STR. So it depends on class chosen.

Okay, so here are the known point arrays:

18 13 13 10 10 08
18 13 13 10 08 10
18 13 13 08 10 10
17 14 13 10 10 10
17 13 13 11 11 10
17 13 13 11 10 11
16 16 12 10 10 10
16 15 13 11 11 09
16 14 14 11 10 10
15 15 13 12 11 10
15 15 13 11 10 12
15 14 13 12 12 11

If you use the point-buy method in 4e, you start with a 10 10 10 10 10 8 array and buy points according to this chart:

Stat
Cost
(Incremental Cost)

09 01* (1)
10 02* (1)
11 01 (1)
12 02 (1)
13 03 (1)
14 05 (2)
15 07 (2)
16 09 (2)
17 12 (3)
18 16 (4)

* Must raise your dump stat to 10 before improving it further.

You have 22 points to spend. And as it turns out, all of the arrays listed above are worth exactly 22 points.

At levels 10, 20, 40 and 50, you get 2 points that you can spend on any two different stats. At levels 30 and 60, all of your stats get bumped by 1. And don't forget about the racial bonuses which get "baked in" the stat rolls.

As you can see from the chart, there is an incremental cost of 1 to boost a stat to 13, 2 to boost it from 14 to 16, 3 to boost it to 17, and 4 to boost it to 18.

In my opinion I would avoid the "17" and "18" arrays, and use the racial and level-up bonuses to boost stats beyond 16.

Not worth having 2-3 extra total points when your main stat is HAMSTER.

I agree with the 16-16 roll being the best. Half orc trickster rogue inc on the 30th.

edit: Thanks fr0gurt for the incredibly informative post.
