What type of companion is the wolf and panther?

    I believe they are both Strikers.

    Not sure about the panther, but the wolf is basic quality, if I recall.

    The direwolf from the guardian pack is not the same as the wolf. If the mounts are any judge then the panther will be purple and the direwolf will be blue

    Both mounts are Rank 3.

    Both the HOTN and Guardian pack companions are Rank 3 Purple.
    It has been confirmed by the Devs.

    Got them both in the game, and yes, both are rank 3/purple, and strikers. The Dire Wolf has Vicious Bites (damage, staggers enemies), Tear (a bleed/DoT), and Dire Fury (knockback, at rank 30).

    I had a thread asking several questions, including this one. The answers I got confirm what imivo said about the wolf. Here is a quote of what someone said about the panther.
