I just discovered that all characters will be wiped before OB starts, is that correct?
I'm cool with that, but might wait till then to play

Yep, can't give you the link to the exact quote right now. But it is confirmed that all BW characters will be wiped before OB so everyone starts fresh.

There absolutely will be a wipe before Open Beta.
However this gives you a great means to test out features, especially as a founder. You can play with the Zen Store and spend Astral Diamonds without fear because while characters will be wiped so will your purchases.
If you spend all your AD this weekend you get it back during Open Beta so there's still a good and enjoyable reason to become a founder.
i saw a post form a dev saying there will be no wipe after OB start. can't find it atm however.
Really? I suppose I've seen this in a small handful of other games but still, interesting a good thing to know.
If anyone can confirm with a quote that'd be great, thanks for the heads up regardless.

I'll confirm it and it's really not that odd.
Open Betas, especially in MMO's, have been leaning more and more towards no wipes. It is likely more common to have not wipe after Open Beta than to wipe now, haha.
No more character wipes after OB? So characters created in OB are kept? Sounds odd looking for confirmation.
It's been confirmed officially several times.
And it's not odd at all. It's standard practice among modern F2P games that have open beta. Open beta is basically just a launch with a disclaimer. It would be odd to wipe.

OB is basically the games release. As Founders head-start days are based on the game going into OB.

Oh so the head start is based on OB and it's basically up 24/7 after? I was concerned since if you pre-ordered and got a head start and if you didn't someone else could get your name.
So OB = 24/7?

Open Beta is 24/7 wirth the Headstart taking effect April 25 and April 23 depending on the packs.
Also Cryptic uses an @handle system. There is absolutely no need to reserve names!
I could be Drizzt Do'Urden@ambisinisterr while you are Drizzt Do'Urden@noctavious8. The @handle is hidden behind most UI unless players choose to inspect the names so it doesn't interfere with any immersion.
Open Beta = release
The new fad in these games is to do this. I guess some doofs will somehow think it's ok to have serious bugs because it's open beta, despite the fact that you are paying for it.
Not saying NWO is excessively buggy, it's seems very ready for release to me. These little marketing games annoy me.
