I have an xbox afterglow controller that I can use to play some PC games. I had seen that there was an option to use the controller in the options, so I plugged mine in. It kinda works, but it's like the game didn't properly sync with the controller or something. For instance, when I would use the trigger to swing my sword, it would also automatically turn my character, so that after a few swings, I was completely turned around. It was odd too, when I very first started the game, the only way I could swing was by pressing the back button. Once I got a few more powers, it changed to the triggers. The only thing that I found kinda worked the way it should on the controller was I could move forward with the left thumbstick. It would be amazing if ya'll were to work that out so that the game could be played properly with the controller. Otherwise, I found the game play was pretty awesome.

The gamepad control was pretty bad, I sure hope there will be tweaks to support it and you won't abandon it. I play everything with a gamepad due to wrist sensitivity.
I also found that some of the action buttons for attacking moves sometimes would just stop working. I ended up having to resort to the keyboard and mouse for this beta as the gamepad really wasn't getting me anywhere.

Yeah, I was using the controller to move forward and the mouse to look around and activate things lol. I really hope they figure it out. :-/
FYI: Controller support was never officially supported in CO/STO despite it being an option. It originally appeared because CO was supposed to be PC/Xbox 360. Some powers in CO flat out will not work period with the controller anymore.
It would be cool if it worked and worked well in NW, but don't count on it.

Yeah, I won't hold me breath, but it would be cool if they straighten it out. But for CO (I've played it a little, my fiance plays it more often than I do) so far me and my fiance love the way the controller works for the game and haven't had any issues yet really for the most part. But I haven't gotten that far in the game yet. Man.....all this talk of NWO makes me want to hunt down my NWN games and play them again until they have the second beta weekend.
My xbox 360 controller interface worked flawlessly and I was able to map whatever function I wanted to the buttons. However I did not use the default/in-game settings. I turned "off" the joystick and xbox controller function in the "options" menu and uploaded a copy of "xpadder" keyboard emulator. With the emulator, programming the triggers, bumpers, and buttons was a breeze and the controller works flawlessly for the game. Xpadder was like $10-$20 or so.

I would hope that they will fix it. This would be a great game to be able to use a controller with I had the same problems as you guys did. Then I tried maping it out myself and it worked better but then random times it would just quit working. I maping it out my self was a pain because it has all these numbers forthe buttons and not what they actually are.

Some of the buttons were already working but nothing is labeled with any coherence. if you were in the chat box you had to exit it with the select key.
Lt & Rt triggers were the At wills.
LB = Q ability
LR = E ability
Y= Jump
A = interact.

I also had problems at first. I have an AirFlo controller and I found out fairly quickly that it wanted to scroll chat rather than let me play the game. The right joystick on my controller was the main scroller, while the other buttons on my controller just seemed to stop working. It went to this chat scroll mode after EVERY cut scene and at seemingly random moments while I was moving around the city.
HOWEVER, I found a fix. Everytime it happened, I only had to push the "start" button on my controller to get everything working properly again.
This was extremely annoying, but at least playable.

I was able to use it. It was very good but not totally correct I'll try xpadder next time. But usually they have more joystick functionality. I'm willing to wait on this one if other more pressing points are being worked("cough" classes "cough")

I tried it, but without setting up Xpadder, it was fruitless. There was no way to activate daily powers.

I hope the Devs notice just how many people really want their gamepad/controllers to be compatible with a game that seems to be fairly easy to convert to both control methods. I'd love to use my wireless Xbox controller and use my keyboard at the same time for certain hot keys. So I looked for about 1/2 the day for a good way to do this without putting $10 into Xpadder (having just help found this fantastic game). Easy but still frustrating alternative is Pinnacle Game Profiler. Free to download program that detects your current gamepad, you pic a profile from a list of games (Neverwinter already being one of them) and deal with the presets (LT for mouse left, RT mouse right, LB&RB-1&2, left stick button as space, right stick button as F, Y-Tab, X-Q, B-R, A-E, Dpad as 3,4,&5 start fro ESC, and Select for M.) not the way I would like to map it but it seems to work great if you're willing to get used to it. You can even change stick sensitivity in the Pinnacle options. However nice this is as an alternative, PLEASE put the effort into combining both preferred play methods in the options of your final result. The masses will be very pleased and I can get many more people on the servers come final launch.
