I just recently tried to find a decent mmorpg that would hold me over till NWO's beta's or release. The following list is the main types of games that I have played extensively.
LOTRO - outdated with great lore and classes.
WOW - extremely outdated with mundane tedious objectives.
SWTOR - great game overall, not perfect but close......if you like SW material.
ROM - outdated like wow, but prefer this somewhat of a clone over wow.
RUNESCAPE - browser based and outdated...enough said.
DDO - outdated, broken and imbalanced.
GW2 - decent design...nothing to write home about and win my attention for long. Probably would not have purchased if I would of tried it first.
I recently started playing TERA and am pleasantly surprised at how great this game has been so far, personally I think NWO was designed around the same mechanics as TERA. the controls and graphics alone warrant suspicions.
Anyone else know of any great free fantasy mmorpg's other than the ones listed that are of high quality and considered worthy of recognition? I am fairly picky due to the inherent-tedious digital download requirements.
FYI - nice visuals are important so excellent graphics are a requirement.
Give Age of Conan a try. I am new to the game but I heard good buzz over at MMORPG.com about it. I have a level 20 Priest of Mitra (Cleric) and have been enjoying the game.
ROFL; those that have tried Guild Wars 2; did you make it to at least level 7 on any of the characters?
Believe me!! So I rolled a Ranger, I think, the class that gets pets natively...anyways the first few hours of the game (GW2) bo-ring!
Once I reached level 7 and learned about Crafting, the game really took off. I started my professions as a Huntsman and a Tailor to make an 8 slot bag. Then I tried other classes to bring in Crafting and now I'm obsessed with that game. Level 14-Level 11-Level 5-Level 2 are the classes I have
But back to NeverWinter before I get kicked off LOL; Meanwhile I tried the Rogue here absolutely fantastic, then I tried the Control Wizard..first few levels were boring but then it kicked off around level 9 or so...then I tried the Great Weapons Fighter...I dont really prefer to play a tank but OMG that class rocked too. I have yet to try a cleric but seriously NeverWinter's gameplay/classes will probably keep me entertained for months!
With Beta Weekend 4 coming, I cant wait to try out the Professions (aka crafting)

Rift is the only other option for me as far as MMOs, it's sub-only tho. But it's a huge game with everything you could ever want without any of the cash gimmicks.
I like STO quite a bit, another Cryptic + PWE game.
You might try Vindictus and RaiderZ. Vindictus is kinda grindy for my tastes and RaiderZ is filled with spammers (literally there are no chat channels that can be used, it's that bad) but they're both action combat not unlike Tera and NWO.
Path of Exile is a free-to-play diablo-like with an extremely balanced and generous cash shop, and insane character customization for min-maxers.
Personally, I'm playing a lot of Starcraft 2 and Farcry 3.

ATM I am playing COH2 Beta (got into it for the weekend) and SC2 mostly.
Not fantasy per se, but then neither is SWTOR, you might take a look at DCUO. I'd say it's very similar to this game in the style of gameplay, similar action combat and primarily instanced, and it's also f2p.
Unless of course you hate superheros. They used many of the voice actors from the old cartoons though, so nostalgia alone might make it worth a shot.

RaiderZ is quite good, and you already have an account since it's published in the US by PWE. It's not written by them or by Cryptic, however, so there are some crucial differences. The most jarring among them is the chat system, which is incredibly sub-par.
On-topic, you should check out Wizardry Online. I haven't played much of it myself, but it's free. Just no hating on me if you don't like it.
While I'm sure that game hits a lot of people's sweet spot for what they're looking for in an MMORPG, if you said to me "syberghost, name a fantasy MMORPG that is more unlike Neverwinter in every way than Wizardry Online", I'd be hard-pressed to help you. Maybe Wizard 101.
Nope, come to think of it; Wizardry Online would still beat Wizard 101 in the "completely unlike Neverwinter" department.
Not saying that's BAD; just saying, if you really like Neverwinter, odds are the things you like about it are done completely opposite in WO.
You guys should probably be more clear; in a forum devoted to a Cryptic product, when you say "CoH2", people here probably start going "what? The Phoenix Project already has something in beta? I thought they were still in early design stages! And since when do they get to call it City of Heroes 2? I thought NCSoft owned that trademark?"
They mean Company of Heroes 2, folks.

You could, but if you play TERA for any length of time, it feels almost like the exact same game with a different skin and no Foundry.
and a community more vile than Goldshire or the SWTOR forums... if you can even imagine such a thing.

Okay, Panic.

I'm playing those 2 games as well . Coh 2 is pretty decent, lots of balance issues though imo.
Playing CoH2 and Fallen Enchantress: Legendary heroes betas atm. Both of them have a lot of balance issues atm, but still fun.
Cheers!

I had to google it. For a moment I really thought there might be a City of Heroes 2.
