While i only got to participate in Beta weekend 3, i managed to get all the way to level twenty five. This gave me, though not a complete, a reasonable view on what the game has to offer, and i adored it. From the user made content to the fable 3-esc quest tracker, it seemed fairly polished, despite peoples gripes about having to stop to hit things.
This being said, i found my character looking very similar, at least in gear, to every other preist i happened to make contact with! I had a hard time understanding why, this is cryptic right? The people who brought us Champions online, arguably THE most customisable mmo, short of games like SecondLife?
Why then do i look like everyone else? I know it's far to late in development, years infact! to be making suggestions, but why cant we have something like finding armor patterns in chests so when we craft we can change the look of armor pieces? A different pattern here for a quest reward here, a different shape from a dungeon boss there, a set of paints to add different colors and a chisel to name the item (Appropriatly)? Heck, maybe going so far as to have multiple pieces to armor (that match up approptiatly), like the pommel, grip, hilt and blade of a sword all being seperate and changable parts?
It's not a huge gripe, heck games like Guildwars 2, a sixty dollar entrance fee game have this same hangup when it comes to player uniqueness, but they circumvent it rather well with dyes (more than three hundred i believe?). So c'mon cryptic, we all know you can be ungodly creative towards your players when you want to, why didn't you here as well?
Have to say I agree totally. The lack of customization on my cleric is baffling. I can understand that a single path is normal but shouldn't there be a side path, or customization of how my spells look even, or a change of how the spells and outfit looks according to which diety I choose at launch? It would make it easier. Surely the chain CC spell on the cleric would look like vines if Mielikki were chosen as the goddess. Or how about being fiery if the
That aside, I found it equally odd that the look of the characters was so stagnant, hair doesn't move, it's like it's plastered on the head of the character, and yes i have my settings on high.
I too find it odd that they didn't go out there for their customization. HArdly any cloaks to speak of, no backpacks at all (this is D&D right? no backpacks really?) no satchels, no pouches on belts (at least I didn't notice any), nothing to indicate that my character had a sense of realism to it. At least nothing I could see by playing the betas yet.
I do hope that more customization is around the corner for this game.
I really don't mind the lack of customization.
I am colorblind and I would rather more ugly people in a zone than less pretty people. (For lack of a better term, I guess)

But this is the rub... you can't make "ugly people". Just simply cannot do it. I played with a half-orc and wanted him to be a pot-bellied crusty old wrinkly geezer that looked like he had a lot of life and battle experience. And I mean ugly, right down to the blind in one eyes, wounded in the other, ... the best I got was a pot-bellied Conan the Barbarian.
Same thing in STO, which offers more customization options (in terms of body-shape) - I tried to create a crusty old Klingon warrior nearing the end of his natural life, scarred and ugly, overweight and all that. The best I got was just another Klingon warrior, except his hair was white and he had a pot-belly. At least it was a passing effort. But in NWO: no-go completely.
As for gear variety I expect Cryptic will have that better fleshed-out by launch or shortly thereafter.
The complaint about sto is that you can't have too many people in one zone because each character has so many possibilities and some video cards wouldn't be able to handle more than 40 ppl.
It seems you can have hundreds of people in the same zone in this game.
I would rather see lots of people even if, in a few months all classes should look identical
