I've already read the whole WH40K library after I was introduced to the WH40K universe through Dawn of War series on PC, but this time I want to read the material beforehand so are there any books that would be relevant or thematic to the Neverwinter universe or this game in particular?

"Any" ????
Pffftttt...
Don't get sucked up into it. I have spent 20 years eating FR books and I am yet to digest them. Not to talk about fan-fiction, fan-comics and non-canon stories.
For sure a good place to start. If you want to go back even further, check out R.A. Salvatore's Icewind Dale
and Dark Elf trilogies, and go from there.
On a related note, we'll have a suggested reading list up sometime soon.
Well if you want to keep up with current events in the realms:
The Drizzt Series above: Gauntlgrym, Neverwinter, Charon's Claw and The Last Threshold
This series was actually written to kick off this game.
now Some other titles:
Brimstone Angels and Brimstone Angels: Lesser Evils.
This is a series that follows two Tiefling Twin girls and their adopted Dragonborn father. The first book takes place in Neverwinter and has a lot of nice info on factions, etc.
Cold Steel and Secrets
This was a series of novellas released as ebooks on Amazon. They tell the story of the crown of neverwinter and the Sons of Nasher. So very good for info on the goings on around Neverwinter as well as some insight to the Powers in charge.
Shadowbane
Shadowbane follows a Paladin who is spellscared. The first appearance of Shadowbane was in the Ed Greenwood Presents: Waterdeep series (Good for a read on current forgotten Realms!) and his first book takes place in Luskan. The second book moves away from the Neverwinter area but is still a nice romp.
The Brotherhood of the Griffon Series involves a band of mercs from Thay. I put this here because Thay is one of the powers at play in Neverwinter. The lich Valindra is a servant of Szass Tam. The campaign mostly takes place around Cormyr I belive, but will give some insight into the new Realms.
The Haunted Lands is mainly about Szass Tam and Thay.
The Wilds series is a series of stand alone books, each detailing a different area in the Realms. You get to see how the Spellplague ravaged the world.
Sword of the Gods
There are two books in this series about a Deva in Airspur. Nice locations, cool story and a neat character. Airspur is a Genasi kingdom near Cormyr and usually at War (or at least Not friendly with) Tymanther (the Dragonborn kingdom).
Dawnbringer is a story of love, betrayal, etc. following 2 families and wound around the lives of two Devas, one who is slowly falling toward Rakshasahood.
Sandstorm tracks a Genasi in Calimshan. A fun story involving a Spying Kenku and his magic circus.
Venom in her Veins follows a young Pureblood Yuan ti and her adventures in the jungles as well as the Underdark.
Spider and Stone Is about The Drow Goddess Lloth and her plans to gain even more power by stealing Mystra's. It is set in the underdark amid a battle between Drow and Dwarves. The second book in the Sword of the Gods series also touches on this Plan of Lloths.
Those are the ones that jump to my mind real quick, there are many many books set in the Forgotten Realms. I would recommend you try a few different ones to see which you like best vs just buckling down and reading the life of Drizzt.
I started with the first book of swords after reading about this funny lore about Wayfinder here in the forums It is kind of cruel in the beginning, where a god creates the swords with the help of several young men from the village who were found dead afterwards by their parents...
Unfortunately I don't have time to read anything fictional at the moment, but this is a page turner!
I'm finding the RA Salvator books to be great for the world building, but meh otherwise The characters are so strong, I never get a sense of danger from them. But he creates some great environments, and it does a great job of taking you from knowing nothing about the world to getting you ready for the game. I'd suggest starting with the four that lead up to the game (mentioned above) to get you situated. A lot of people love his books though, so if that's you, then head back in time to read the rest of his books.
Brimstone Angels, which I'm reading now, is quite good. Interesting characters and plot.
I read The Magehound (Counselors & Kings #1) by Elaine Cunningham based on a friend's recommendation. It was good as well, though the action seems to all take place somewhere far from Neverwinter, so it won't help you get ready for the game.
One thing I've not found in books so far is the story of the spell plague. Is there a book that shows that happening?
Comments
No for real
These :
Gauntlgrym
Neverwinter
Charon's Claw
The Last Threshold
All by R.A. Salvatore
I suggest the Night angel Trilogy By Brent Weeks
NOT FORGOTTEN REALM OR D&D BASED.
but hella good

Dean Koontz, Clive Cussler, Mark Twain, Terry Pratchett... oops
Book of Swords series, Brave new World.
dunno...
Rouge assasin huh? Is that an assassin with red lipstick on?
and Dark Elf trilogies, and go from there.

That would be awesome, a lot of games need this as a feature of the official website that is easily accessible from the homepage.

THe Abolethic Sovereignty Takes place during/after.
The wilds deals with spellplague lands, etc. so they are pretty good to see what it has done.
