The need for multi-class characters is something I feel is needed for Neverwinter.
I understand that this game is still in beta mode and lacks certain classes at present. I am sure that more classes will come in time. But the original games that this MMO is named after really sold itself to me by being able to mix the classes to create someone unique.
Neverwinter Nights 2 had twelve classes and sixteen prestige classes. From these classes we could have a main starter class and add a few levels of another class to create, for example; wizard/fighter. Then throw in a prestige class to become say an Eldrich Knight.
At present we can only choose one class with one path to follow and no choice in skills. Making us, in my opinion, drones.
I'm not sure how others feel about this, but I feel this would make Neverwinter unique. Something I would be more inclined to play. Don't get me wrong, I loved the short time I had playing, and I'm looking forward to playing more and seeing how this game progresses. I'm grateful to have been a part of this from the ground floor.

No, NWN2 wasn't 4th Edition. Look at a newer book and see paragon paths and epic destinies. Those destinies might end up in the game at some point but as far as dual class mechanics I seriously hope never. Gotta follow the groundwork in 4E to make a complete and updated game.
The game is based off on 4e. To get a grasp of multiclassing/hybrid way to mix classes in 4e, check the 4e Intro thread in my signature.
That thread also lists all teh "recommended builds" and various classes with in depth explanation with examples. It was written for my guildies who tried to understand 4e from 3e, which I later copied to the forums.
Essentially what you are referring to following the 4E ruleset is still not a multiclass. Which I am so glad they removed, people wanting to be a 10th level Fighter / 3rd level Wizard generally ending up feeling like weaksauce later on in adventures. The power selections gimp you even in 4E, just not as bad. Though a Fighter with the ability to cast Grease is always fun. But you're still a Fighter.

I heard, but don't quote me on it, some people don't min-max powergame.

Yes, but what was multiclass in 3e is called hybrid in 4e.
In 4e, if you hybrid Fighter and Mage, you get a hybrid (i.e. Some different class which is half like fighter, half like mage).

Multiclass is something very different. imo, multiclass is something specifically made to make bards the god of versatility in 4e.

Multiclass is totally different in 4th edition and makes more sense to me. Its feat based where you can buy or trade powers if you will instead of spending levels in a class. It can also open up Paragon paths from another class or allow you to meet prerequirements.
Neverwinter... sadly is not NWN2 Online. Though i'm sure one day someone will pull it off without completely dumbing it down for the masses..just not today. We are stuck with mutilated bits and pieces of 4e in the meantime so enjoy!

Perish the thought.
