But aye, there are a few attacks in game which will partially bleed through block. (The frenzy multi swing attack, or the Hexer AoE bomb thingy.)

There is a bug where it still shows the scrolling combat damage, but if you watch your health bar it will not move.
Scout Tragold - "I haven't lived this long by being brave... it's just another word for stupid."
In my case:
-Blocking negates the damage of the basic attacks though you can see the damage numbers of those attacks.
-When blocking the Special AoE Attacks (the ones with red zones) you will negate the possible knockback of the attack, your block gauge will take between 50%-100% of the attack damage and you will receive half of the damage that would have been done to you if you didn't block.
Your Action Points skyrocket when blocking red zone attacks probably even more than blocking the same regular attack damage and receiving that same amount of damage without blocking.
From the first minutes of the game I started to take the same damage with or without the block.
I went up to level 38 receiving countless damage relatively mortal as yet no way to know a gold farmer was very complicated to get this level using pots.
I talked to several players who had the same problem, even my friends. In some boss was impossible to use taunt + guard because the block is not absorbed any damage.

Waiting any GM speak.
I really hope that english isn't your first language.
I'm hearing a lot of varying opinions about this. Players who I know and respect so far claim that block was working as expected, but that the damage shown didn't match the damage taken. I've seen this for myself in YouTube videos like the ones linked above. On the other hand, I keep hearing from other people that it didn't work like that at all.
I suppose we would need to see some video proof of that to counter the video that already shows it working. Its always possible the bug is situational or requires certain combinations of equipment/class/mobs.

I think a lot of people don't seem to understand how Block works. Paying attention to the 'block bar' and using certain attacks to replenish for example. I see some warriors holding block forever.
Many don't know that you can 'stab' over your block by holding block and attacking although this depletes your bar as well. Some tactical usage is required it seems. Although it is beta and entirely possible that it doesn't work at all for some.

My block worked fine. I had the same scrolling combat text as if I didn't block, but my health didn't move.

Block works. These are players who do not pay full attention to what they are playing, so they are complaining that block is not working because they see red numbers. Subsequently, they are the type of gamer who thinks they have found a problem and want to quickly trumpet it.
You will see a red number, it is the damage you blocked (unless you are caught in an attack that bleeds through). Most damage is blockable, and while you do see the red number pop up, you do not lose health on your health bar. If you noticed on night one of the beta weekend, you would see a yellow "Resisted" or something to that effect message when you blocked, and also see a red number. After the first night's maintenance, all you saw was a red number. Remember, though, that you have a health bar, pay attention to that, and you will not see it move.

You hit shift, shield goes up, you take the dmg, but health bar doesn't move it says absorbed or something on the screen, so the scrolling text displayed the incoming dmg but then the mitigation. I agree its not 100% clear, could be clarified more, also you see the block bar on the left side hud thingo lose some juice, so you need to right click smash to get it back.

Seems to be working fine.
Hmm, me shield blocks 4k damage hits relatively easily.
