Thanks for pointing that out. Now, I'll just have to pay attention to what I'm typing. Interesting, now that I'm looking at it, but my Hero of the North didn't appear under my name. I'll look into that another day.
As for me:
I starting playing D&D in the early 80s, but stopped when I left for college. I found the realms later in that decade when I picked up a book titled Darkwalker on Moonshae. I went out and bought a number of realms source books just to read up on the world that Ed Greenwood had created. I read as much as I can and write when I can, but that has fallen off in recent years due to the family. I love books, writing and video games, but given a choice, I’ll spend it with my family.
I started playing video games in the 80s and enjoyed RPGs the most and played just about anything I could get my hands on at the time. In the early 90s, I found a game that I truly loved and played it until a dark night in July of 1997 when it was turned off and my computer screen went black. That game was Neverwinter nights. I find it hard to explain to anyone that never played that game what it was like that night, but the closest I can come is to say it was like watching a dear friend pass away and knowing that you’d never talk to them again. Before AOL went unlimited hours for a flat monthly fee, my average gaming bill was $150.00 per month and I would gladly pay it. This was on the light side compared to some of the people I played with at the time. Having a free to play game is amazing now when I look back on what I spent to play Neverwinter Nights. During those years, I played a ranger named Thornhawk.
After the fall of Neverwinter Nights, I moved on to other MMOs from Ultima Online, Everquest, DDO and Lord of the Rings Online. As a player, I tend to create a character and use the same name in the various games I play. I don’t know if I’m alone in that regard, but I tend to enjoy the characters I create and even though the game gets old, the characters continue to grow. In the 20 years I have been playing MMOs, I’ve never used the name Thornhawk as a character after Neverwinter Nights.
I’m excited to play Neverwinter as the game looks great from all the videos I’ve watched the past few weeks, but I’m full of apprehension as well. It will be hard to walk through the streets of Neverwinter again, remembering old times and not see old friends.
It’s good to see your post. Here’s to new friends, and new adventures. If you are interested in teaming up with other veteran D&D and MMO players, stop by our Recruiting Thread and say hello (found in my sig block). We are always looking for like-minded folks. Hope to see you in-game!
