He shouldn't be waiting for his gauge to refill. If it runs out in combat it will not refill on it's own. You have to use certain attacks to refill it. Your gauge only refills on it's own when you are out of combat.

Yea, that Gauge is your life, once its broken and all gone you have to completely refill it before you can block again.

Seriously though I love playing a Tank but this whole gauge that you have to wait to refill is just plain dumb. Tanks depend on defense and just to have ur guard run out on because there is not enough dps does not help the situation at all. I really think they need to come up with something else due to the fact if you are facing a boss that the dps can't take down in a short amount of time will only hurt this game. Or at least make it so tanks can reinforce the time on the gauge.

I don't see what the problem is you're trying to state, other than saying that this mechanic makes playing a tank more challenging. Which is a good thing. More challenging = more interesting = more fun.

Without a gauge, the tank could just block forever. Which would make for boring gameplay. The idea here is to instead have the tank intelligently mix blocking and attacking.

You shouldn't be standing there trying to take every single hit with your shield anyways. The big heavy hits you need to sidestep and get around them, otherwise yes, even Enforced Threat won't be enough to make sure your guard meter doesn't break.

This will be probably made easier by paragon path features and powers for specialized tanks. T

Anyway, as quorforged and unjustblade said, staying in the fire, even with the shield raised, is just plain dumb.

If they are not using combinations to hit while turtling and using powers to keep the bar up they aren't doing it right.

Force does a good job of showing the powers and using them. He keeps a good pace as well.

As far as tanking in NW. It looks like to me you can Tank pretty well in the framework the game mechanics provide. If the shield bar was infinite you could just turtle the whole time taking zero damage. Watching the video it appeared that the only time he lost his shield was when he blocked a Boss Super Attack, Blocking attacks from multiple elites or hordes of normal mobs. Move, use other abilities, Wreck Face.

If you listen in the video, he is explaining to the masses why its important for it not to run out. And when it does you have to wait the full timed penalty to refresh.

Nothing will hurt this game, its free to download and free to play.
