Tamren grew up with a fascination with magic. Against his parents wishes, young Tamren would constantly seek out the old village warrior Remrik to listen of his tales of cunning mages and powerful artifacts. As he came to his teenage years, Tamren grew impatient with mere stories and began to make plans to leave his small town to search for magic with his own eyes.

It was at this time that the traveler appeared. The old man was old with ragged clothing, yet despite his poor appearance, one couldn't help but feel that this man had some hidden power. Tamren, with his hunger for magic, knew that he had to check out this strange old wanderer and see what secrets he held. Waiting for the dead of night, Tamren snuck into the old mans room at the inn, pleased to see he was sound asleep. Quickly and quietly, he looked around for anything of interest. And then he saw it. Half covered by the old mans battered cloak, lay a mysterious box. The box appeared to be made from a strange shiny black substance, stranger yet, in the darkness of night Tamren could make out a faint glow around the object.

He knew he'd hit it big, this was it, this, was magic. Sneaking over to the box Tamren reached down and picked it up, immediately his entire body froze and he felt a cold sensation spreading from where his hands touched the box! How could he be so stupid! After all the stories he'd heard surely he should have known better than to just pick it up. But it was too late and the cold sensation was rapidly spreading through his body, his curiosity had lead to his death. The cold sensation finally reached his heart, but when it did, Tamren felt a strange sense of warmth flowing from his heart and coursing through his blood. The cold faltered and redoubled it's effort. The struggle between the two forces continued for only a couple minutes, but to Tamren, unable to do anything, it seemed to last for hours. Finally the two forces clashed with their remaining might and an explosion engulfed Tamren and he blacked out.

When he came around and opened his eyes, he found the old man, holding his black box, standing above him and muttering something about dragon's blood. Tamren slowly stood up while surveying his surroundings. Most of the inn was gone, and there was a sizable crater where the old mans room had been. The old man signed and stated "Come with me boy, I thought my days of teaching magic were at an end but fate seems to take joy in proving me wrong." In a daze Tamren finally realize that the explosion had come from him, that the warmth he had felt had been from him! Looking again at the crater left behind Tamren felt something he'd never experienced before, fear of magic. He realized he could not control this new power and feared what may happen should such an event happen again, how many might he accidentally kill? And so he quickly left with the old man with not a word to his parents or the townsfolk. How they explained his disappearance he might never know, perhaps they thought he and the old man died in the explosion. Perhaps one day, once he was in control of his power, he might once again return to his quiet village with his own stories of magic to tell.

Damn because I have THEE most interesting backstory about my character. He's a half halfling/gnome whose demigod parents died in the Cataclysm. He was raised by crazy evil dwarves to be a magic wielding ranger. Huh, you probably would have enjoyed it, but oh well.
