The devs have to have time to review and consider the feedback from players, as well possibly implement it into the next beta test phase. So I'm hoping the people in beta next weekend will do their very best to provide useful and valuable insights about gameplay and other features with a fresh outlook and fresh eyes.

During the weekend they will be working to gather and condense all the feedback and issues. Expect a decent amount of Cryptic GM presence within the game as well as a lot of behind the scenes monitoring.
During the week(s) they will be taking all that feedback and working to make changes to the game in order to ensure every reported bug or complaint is properly addressed and modified.
Sadly as much as it would be awesome for players to have longer testing times the current schedule is purposely designed to gather and address feedback in an optimized method. While it sucks for all of us who really want our hands on the game it is the best way I could think of to really make sure the game is properly tested and catered to the players.
Yes...but couldn't they gather and address feedback for over a week? (Hopeful grin) Or perhaps have a second BETA weekend in FEB? At the End of Feb? I can feel withdrawals already...

They'll announce details on later betas later. The early stuff is where they have everybody in the office monitoring things and getting information on performance tuning, and on bugs that don't show up until there's a lot of people. It's an all hands on deck thing in early betas. At least, that's how it was with CO and STO.
Later, they can leave it up when hardly anybody is watching, and see how it handles itself over an extended period.
Unless they expect two days of beta to "open the flood gates" and give them a metric ducktonne of issues to fix, that couldn't possibly take less time than a month, I can only assume the issue is that there's so little content in the game that players will get bored and quit before launch.
If the problem is too many reports; the fact is the bugs are there anyway and by seeing which bugs are reported the most you can gather "triage" information and fix the most popular bugs first.
If the problem is the content then it makes sense to have willing UGC authors on the job from as early a time as possible. Besides, most the beta players have already paid upwards of $60 USD.
I can only conclude that the beta should definitely be run from February 8th through to march 28th in order to both please players and make a better tested, more polished final product. So sayeth the wise Alaundo.

I think they are doing it smartly give it one weekend. take three weeks to take in the data and feedback from that test improve things. then have two more weeks next month to test more. Hopefully the open beta will not be far off and then release :-) we shall see!

Bluntly, the game isn't simply ready for continuous beta. NDA means I can't dictate what is finished and what is polishing. I can say I've seen announcements of things that aren't released here yet, so I can absolutely confirm this.

Really? The ONLY thing you can come up with is that players will get bored and quit? Not they don't want to expend the resources keeping a not ready server up and having people watch over it when those resources could be used working to get the game ready? Not that they might be constantly making code changes and restarting the servers and they don't want to listen to people pissing and moaning about the servers restarting? Not that maybe the servers have not been optimized yet and are not ready for 24/7 operation and they don't want them crashing constantly and giving people ammo to HAMSTER about how much things suck and driving away possible future customers?

You have zero evidence to be able to draw any conclusion let alone the conclusion that you drew. You just want something to happen so threw out some emotionally charged statements and hopped that it might scare Cryptic into putting the servers up how you want them. It is not going to happen. There has probably been dozens of hours of planning put into the timeline of the release alone and they are not just going to change that by you bullying them in to keeping the servers up so you can play the game.
There is going to be a closed beta and then an open beta then a launch that will give them plenty of data to get the game ready for launch on a timeline that is comfortable for them. Why exactly should the change everything they have planned just to hurry up and let you play the game earlier and longer?

Although i cant wait to play this is actually the best tactic at start, it will give developers time to address the bugs and not get constant reports for a month or more whyle trieing to fix it.
I think this way they can more easily browse/maintain the feedback than when they would constantly get reports day after day without even being to wrap up the first day reports

A pity that the Foundry isn't ready for continuous beta.:(
