In Cryptic's other games, you have the ability to exchange in game currency for zen, which is the currency used to purchase items from the game store. This means someone with more time than money can earn enough in game currency and eventually trade it for zen to get what they want in the game store, without ever spending any of their own money. it also means someone with more money than time can just buy some zen, then trade it for enough in game currency to get what they want in game without having to invest all of the time required to get it.
It should be understood that every unit of zen is actually purchased by real money(meaning cryptic profits) and every unit of in game currency is earned by a real player(meaning someone actually did the "work" required to earn it by playing). It should also be noted that this is a completely anonymous system. You place a "bid", someone accepts it, and both parties instantly get their currency. Lastly, such a system completely kills the illegal gold sellers, because it means players already have the ability to "buy" in game currency, but Cryptic is the one who profits from it, not some foreign farmer.
havent played cryptics games, but im sure FW isn't cryptics and the system you described was in it a year ago. That doesnt ofcourse mean that it coulnt be in NW.

There definitely will be an in game currency, and it is likely it will be linked to Cryptic Points and/or Zen currency. What the exchanges are though is anyone's guess.
