Unable to authenticate: Lost connection to Account Server

This morning I logged in and downloaded the patch(12/14/23); but the site was still down for maintenance. I tried later; but the auto updater kept running. Finally; it opened the login page, but it said "The website is experiencing technical difficulties. Normal game play is not affected.". I logged in and it brought up a window; " Unable to authenticate: Lost connection to Account Server." My brother and I are having the same problem. I called a friend and he had no trouble getting on. I had no trouble yesterday, just after today's patch. HELP!

    When your location has problem to connect and others don't, it usually is a routing problem. i.e. router/modem cached an older route information and not changed in time. I would try reboot the router/modem.

    EXACT same has happened to me. Been going on 7hrs now. Tried resetting router and even uninstall reinstall of ARC and Neverwinter. NOTHING...... Apparently ARC has shut down all their support pages as well being they all come up dead links. Smart on their part since I know they get swamped with severe problems and don't want to deal with them.

    I have no problem getting into their support link (I don't live in US). Based on what it gathered so far, it is not a simple router/modem routing issue but a greater ISP issue. Probably, an ISP region is not able to route to the game server.

    Try:

    tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com

    Since you have problem to get there, the following is the screen shot of that link.

    patchserver.crypticstudios.com is the server you care about.

    Just ran that and got "request timed out" for 10-30. What that means is beyond me. I just know it is getting very frustrating being the Winter Festival has started and there are dailies.

    That means there is a broken connection between your ISP to Cryptic's ISP. This is not necessary either ISP's fault. It is the gateway in between has problem. There are many jumps from your home to Cryptic server, both end of the ISP has no direct control.

    You may or may not be in the outage area. If the route from your home to Cryptic goes through the outage hub in those area, you would have problem.

    Thanks @plasticbat, I'm having the same issue all of a sudden. Several steps in the report timing out. So what do we do, just wait for them to resolve the issue?

    Well, you can't do anything. Cryptic can't do anything. Hence, wait for the internet to recover and/or re-route itself.
    On the other hand, if you know how to re-route yourself (such as using VPN or proxy server), it can be a temp solution.

    Why on earth would you have to hit magnifying glass first, is that for windows or a mac?

    Obviously, it is windows 10. If you don't click there, can you type anything in it?

    i also got this problem 4 days ago, when i click the launcher it goes into downloading and says it is updating the launcher but it is endless download, it start as 110mb goes down to 30mb and then it says try connecting and start downloading again, i waited for 3hours and no result, i contacted support and they are saying it is my ISP but other mmos like gw2,swtor,dcuo etc are working fine only neverwinter all of sudden is not launching, i do not know what to do about it, really sucks.

    You reach different mmo sites with different route.
    It is like the highway to New York is close and it does not mean you can't go to Chicago.

    Had same in game disconnect problem for the first day coming back to the game on all toons after four months. no problems today though.
