My headphones ( on bluetooth ) cut out when joining a party

Is there some hidden setting somewhere that is disabling sound through my headphones - when being used via bluetooth whenever I join any party .
Occurs on use of both a Sony ( MDR-ZX330T ) and Jabra ( ( model version unknown ) headphones .
Sound works normally when in single player but as soon as I join a party the sound stops . Nothing showing on windows about being muted - still shows as being connected via BT headphones
As soon as I leave the party the sound comes back .
