How to Revive Lockbox Enthusiasm

I personally am more and more turned down by the current lockbox design. It's basically just a new mystic comp and mount and be done with it. I basically just spend the keys on lockboxes because I get them through VIP anyway, but can't remember the last time I actually bought additional ones. Problem with lockboxes is they are neither profitable nor desirable. You are way better off just buying the unique rewards from the Auction House and move on. The gameplay value for most companions and mounts isn't there and we're sitting on 100% bolster since ages.

I think lockboxes could use a bit more variety beyond the top tier rewards. Make one lockbox drop considerably more Trade Bars, another one considerably more Insignia Powder, etc. Let boxes drop a specific armor / weapon visual, cool skins of popular mount / companions, or even catch-up campaign currencies from campaigns not yet in the legacy category. This would allow lockboxes to fill certain purposes and remain relevant way beyond their tenure. You could see it with older lockboxes that used to drop more Trade Bars and hence were very popular (Firemane Lockbox etc.) for a certain time.

The economy around lockboxes is mostly dead. Dunno how many remember the Rusted Iron Lockbox from the golden age, but oh boy. I mean there was an exploit involved, but you could always make a profit knowing what lockboxes to open and resell. Of course this also was with a working ZAX, but that's another story. It would at least be great to get a bit more variety and value from lockboxes these days. I'm currently waiting for 224k ZEN to get exchanged and I'm not sure what to spend it on except VIP and the occasionally good Premium Passes.

I have not bothered to open lockbox for years.

I store the keys in two characters.

I have all the lockbox stacks since mod 3.

Why are you saving them??? The newest lockbox the planar in my opinion stinks. I liked the Lothian lockbox, got a lot of good things from that, but I am only opening the darkomen ones now for the tradebars. The tradebars is my primary goal from them, though enchantments you can sell and other ah items are good too. Nothing hardly on the planar-what is up with that?

The question is not why I am saving them. The question is: why do I spend time and effort to open lockbox?
For trade bars? My shared bank already store to its max limit.

All those stored up tradebars can be converted to Purple Insignias, which can be leveraged right now, if you’re looking for a profit from those Lockboxes. Mainly, from the ones in the same era as the Dark Omens ones. That said, those Mythic Companions/Mounts are somewhat useful for profit, if you’ve had luck on your side getting them. While you and a lot of other players at/near endgame are all sitting at 100% Companion/Mount bolster on the entire account, many players might not be there. It might take a few weeks for you to sell them, because the player base that still needs them are more likely to need substantial time to accumulate the AD, mainly grinding 100k a day. But, there are a number of the current style lockboxes that still have a lot of value. Even the current Mount is very valuable, due to being one of only a few 4-slot mounts overall available, but the Myconid Bulette is also valuable for its Equip for a number of groups. The one with the Dragonbone Blades Artifact Set is pretty valuable (can’t remember if it’s current style, or older). The one with the Legendary Class Companion Choice Pack is pretty valuable (though it might be an older style one).

The one with the Legendary Class Companion Choice Pack was the Recon. Lockbox, so definitely older style (I think with the 25-1000 Tradebars per open). Since the biggest pull from here is a non-chase prize, it’s likely you’ll run into a few of them before getting the Mythic/Legendary Balloons Mount (which is possibly useful, for Combat Power, as a desirable sales item).

I haven’t been using my lockbox keys from VIP either lately. I have 104 of them in my bank. I keep hoping a better lockbox will come out eventually and I will want to use them. It’s the same thing with the Event Vendor or whatever it’s called. I have 7 tokens of achievement waiting on something I want to buy. I know they updated the Event Store, but I’m still not sure it is worthwhile. I used to use the keys and tokens as soon as I received them.
