I know what a quest is but what is an instance (to be completed) in this context?

Abyssal hunts?
I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.
I think abyssal hunts don't count for this, but turning in a quest did. Perhaps an instance would be the weekly foot of the Narbondellyn (not sure that is the exact name)?
But, I think the first hunt of the day does say it awards 75 battle pass XP, but it was doing that since I completed the first part of the campaign and before this part started on Tuesday and no progress was incrementing anywhere.

Confusingly, hunts are still giving me credit for battle pass phase 1 (I've completed it a while ago). For phase 2 I get credit for turning in a repeatable quest. The only quest I can think of that is also an instance is the weekly. Maybe I'll find out on Monday whether that gives credit.
I agree that they should have left out "or instance".

The weekly quest (25 points) gives out credit but I consider that as "quest". The regular quest (5 points) gives out credit.

It is simple. If they did not include "instance" in the description, there would be people being confused and not knowing if Foot of Narbondell counted toward the Battle Pass.
So with instance, people are confused what that means. If they left it off, people would be confused if it was included.

"Foot of Narbondell" is a quest, a 25 points weekly quest. You won't get the battle pass credit until you return the quest back to the quest giver.

Lesser Hunt also does not give me credit.
'Regular' hunt does not give me credit.
