Do ya'll want a simpler forum?

Hey gang!

As is widely known, I'm new here. My initial reaction to looking at the forums is that there's waaaaaay too many categories, especially with all of the sub categories each individual category has. I was thinking of paring some things down to make the whole forum less intimidating, buuuut the forum is here for you folks, not for me, so I thought I'd ask you what you thought. Would you prefer less forums (for example, individual platforms for bug reports, but consolidating the Neverwinter Discussion all into one forum?) or do you want things to remain exactly as they are?

Now that Modules are released simultaneously across all platforms, I don't see a reason for most of the forums to be separated (aside from the afore mentioned bug forums). I tend to just sort it all by recent discussions and ignoring categories anyways. Are there any plans for more CDP discussions? Otherwise it might be better to archive them along with perhaps PVP.

Yes I want! Your words echoed my heart.

    3 Forum category
    - Wish For (for devs to explore new things to add)
    - Bugs (for devs to solve)
    - Fun chat

    • The class forums barely have any use, maybe make a single forum for guides instead.
    • We don't need seperate general discussion, pve discussion and pvp discussion, make that 1 single place for every discussion that isn't feedback or a bugreport
    • I agree with arazith that we should combine most of the forum except for maybe the bug section but even that could be one forum if there is a way to flair your posts for console or pc
    • Get rid of all the legacy stuff like the foundry forum or the CDP section. Don't delete the content but move it to an archive section that's read only
    • Either actually use the Patch Notes Forum and post every patchnote there so it can be discussed or get rid of it and make it possible to comment under the patchnotes on the main website

I agree that the Forums need some TLC on organization. Some of my points have already been made:
    • Outside of the existing Feedback, Bug Report, and Platform Specific Test Servers, the remaining (publicly viewable) categories within respective platforms should be globalized. Any hidden from public view categories that are platform specific may need some in-house decision making as to the “globalized consolidation or not” question.
    • A new category within each platform should be made (and regularly updated): Server Maintenance Schedule. If this already exists as hidden from public view, maybe tuck things away in hidden forums that aren’t ready for community viewing, with a new title, and release the ready for prime time content in “Server Maintenance Schedule” platform-specific forums that are turned to public viewing.
    • Some forums need to be considered for consolidation, however I would suggest that Class Forums suggests discussions around issues with a particular character class, while the Guides would be more about how to optimize playing the character classes as they are. In some respects, the Guides needs to get some incentivization to attract players to post to them.
    • Archive all the outdated forums. For forums that are to totally defunct elements of the game (Foundry, I’m looking at you), possibly relegate them to a hidden from public state, that is nevertheless archived.
    • Beyond these issues, possibly getting the Forums (as they exist here) to be cloned and/or synced with the official Discord server (Discord added the possibility of making/using forum channels within Discord servers a few months ago) would be a worthy project/goal? At some point, I anticipate we’ll be looking at any content in “old website format” being deprecated, with only things in the “new website format” surviving. If the Forums (on this website) are the fly in the ointment, Discord might be a reasonable alternative.

Definitely fixing the formatting on mobile view. Threads are fine but the forum lists are completely broken.

I have to view the forum lists in Desktop view and the threads in mobile view. Also in Desktop view, even on PC, the varioua irons are stretched out side to side. This is on Firefox for both PC and phone.

I have to turn my phone sideways to view the forum on my phone. It's ok, but still not great.

Hey CM. I don't care how many categories the forum has, interaction and communication from your side is more important. For years we have asked things and just been left hanging with no responses and all it does is depress and anger the playerbase. We live in the hope that one day this will change. The only thing I personally care about is that when we players ask a question we get some kind of timely response back, even if it's "we don't know right now but we'll get back to you on it." Simple politeness and respect. The form the forum takes is really more a cosmetic issue, the function of it acting as an efficient communication line (BOTH directions) between us and the company is what we actually need.

And re patch notes as mentioned above, it's not being used, it says on the launcher check the forum for patch notes and when you come to the forum there's nothing there and it hasn't been updated for ages. That needs fixing. Or just put patch notes linked as a permanent thing directly in the info section/home page ingame so people can always access them 24/7 from the game itself. Just needs a link there and small permanent box for it "find patch notes here" etc.
Apparently pointing-out the bleeding obvious is a 'personal attack'.
