Cryptic could make money on companion skins

It'd be nice if the Devs made companions like mounts. There are so many cool looking companions that could make collecting them more interesting. Not to mention make the game more aesthetically pleasing than seeing a hundred Succubus all over. I just got the Silver-Scaled Cleric Disciple from Juma bags and would love to use it, but it's pretty much useless. I'd even burn companion tokens for the different appearances. I'm sure people would buy/farm companions just for appearance and even burn AD/tokens on them. Cosmetics and mounts are this way already. Seems like a good way for Cryptic to make money and add a little visual upgrade.

Mount only has one attack. In addition, when mount power is used, there is no mount around. The connection of muont power and the actual mount is name only. There is no real relationship. Companion fights more often. A tiger doing spinning attack, a cat throwing bottles, a pig shooting arrows, ... would be funny. A lot of animation for different companion will need to be defined and implemented.

Requiring too much time investment to be cost effective.

All companions are coded differently, they all do different things in combat and they also all react at different rates, some are more engaged than others and while some get right in there and fight immediately, others take much longer to get involved. This is in their inherent design. As others have said it would not be practical in the slightest. Yes it would be nice to mix and match, take a cool-looking companion like the lich which has low damage and use the attack from another companion which has high damage, but in the real world it's just not something they would manage to be able to do on their budget and with their level of expertise. And there are far more other pressing things to work on anyway, loads of bugs which affect gameplay and do not work and other things like Hallasters statue and other stronghold decoration items people have sitting in their inventories for ages now that they purchased to use and find they cannot because there are no slots for them and they cannot be placed even thought they are items in the game but are broken and do not work, there are LOADS of things which needs attending to. The development team just does not have the time or resources to fix what it needs to fix already, let alone reworking something like this. So dream-on. It's a nice idea but it's never going to happen.

Also after all is said and done, the 'look' of the companion is inherently tied to it's movement and animations and this is in turn inherently tied to it's type of attack and what it does in combat, so it's likely you would never be able to take the skin of one companion and put it over the abilities of another. Unless you made all companion attacks generic in which case you would end-up with a bland range of companions who all did the same thing and dumbed-down the entire companion combat system which goes completely against the reason you want to do this in the first place which is to provide variety and visual diversity.

Of course, Devs would make companions which are not only good but have the qualities to lead the whole team like professionals. Till then he needs to wait for maximum time.

i agree. changing companion appeareance would be awesome. the argument that "many of them do different things with different animations" can be completely skipped for augments as all they do is follow you around. i would love to have the icosahedron appeareance rather the owlbear cub

    Then use the icosahedron.

they all have diff stats. the augment ones would be a far simpler process.
