*** The game can read your mind. If you want it, you won't get it. If you don't expect to get it, you will. ***
"If if that was the case, if it was something then I probably was chasing. I would have never gotten it. That was the whole point, if you chase something, then sometimes you never get it. uh huh if you put forth to work and all the attitude, next you know it's bestowed upon you." -- Michael Jordan
Minsc is a character from the Baldur's Gate games and is from the Second Edition era. Like other NPCs, he isn't restricted in weapon choices as PCs are. He is a ranger, built in a way that PCs aren't allowed to build, because of the way the game is designed. Bow and two hand weapons aren't a defining part of the ranger class outside of Neverwinter, anyway.
"We have always been at war with Dread Vault" ~ Little Brother
Indeed, Minsc is special. He is I think the only human character to bridge 2:e and 5:e
Anyway, in 2:e Barbarians, Fighters, Paladins, and Rangers are proficient with simple weapons and martial weapons (everything apart from exotics). When wielding a single 2 handed melee weapon gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.
