I'm wondering if it was intentionnal from the devs to put a BHE with a big ape to see some players yapping/barking "Ape" "+Ape" "inv Ape" in Avernus zone chat like a hord of baboons ?

Except there are no apes in Avernus.
I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.
I don't know about slowing down - they buffed the ratio, so it is now even easier to get a yuma bag by doing BHE. You might get less rAD now, but honestly: those, who care about rAD, are in love with random queues. People usually have different drive to repeatedly violate an oversized gorilla.
Should be 2 Ape or 1 Siege per bag. Siege is harder to coordinate though. People that show up tend to berzerk out on the mobs and ignore firing the catapults.

So... I went over to the catapults and didn't see a way to fire them or interact with them. How does this work?

First there can't be hostiles around. Then you have to position the catapult. Stand near the glowing ball on the side and it will rotate in place. When it is pointed at the enemy siege engine Borg cube thing, you will get a Press F to fire prompt. Once it fires, it will reload itself and then you can fire again. After a certain number of shots, I don't know how many, it will break and a new one appears. It will also have to be rotated before being fired.
2 big things are that again, no enemy mobs can be nearby. The other players ahould be pulling mobs to the middle so they don't interfere with the catapult.
Second thing is that another player can block you from rotating the catapult by standing on the wrong side. Firing a catapult may require some yelling!
Once the big Siege Engine HP bar gets to around 20%, the catapults disappear and a boss devil comes down. Kill it before the time runs out to complete the HE. Presumably killing 300 mobs will do this as well but I haven't see anyone get close. You need at least 2 people firing catapults to get the boss out with enough time remaining to kill him. Maybe less if people start the HE quickly or have mega DPS.

And as soon as you get this achievement, with the catapult you are able to fire nearby players instead of rocks. Launching a dwarf deals twice the normal damages.

I saw an Infant Gorilla there yesterday. Also, technically, Humans are apes.
*mic drop*
Suspect that to slow down a little after this patch with the changes.
