Maze Engine Defending the Sword Coast

Mobs in the challenge circle for Bruenor's DtSC quest aren't scaled up from the zone. Demons and cultists in Blacklake are level 8, Velosk mobs are level 36 IIRC.

    I haven't come up on someone doing it to find out. The question had occurred to me as well though.

    It actually plays or played that message to a newcomer regardless of their level.

    does it still tell nearby players to flee because powerful monsters are coming? (the message it gave for low level players to avoid jumping into a level 70 encounter and getting 1 shotted)

    This actually happened to me today in Black lake, when i was doing a daily for The Maze Engine camp, i got the same warning.

    I've been doing Maze Engine for a month or so (since they fixed the scaling) and I believe it is now working as intended. The Maze Engine DtSC encounters have mobs at the same level as the area. After all, we are experienced (read 'over level 60') Adventurers being asked by Bruenor Battlehammer to 'Go protect them', so we come and help the locals defend against Baphomet's minions. Personally, I'm glad they are at the same level as the local mobs, otherwise the 'innocent' players in the area would be targeted by the mobs and the whole mess would be better realized in a separate 'Maze Engine Only' instance without them. This way they kill two campaigns with one instance design.

    Hotenow Maze Engine mobs are indeed level 57 as expected.

    I think the 'warning' you are receiving is just a routine scare, much like the guard/marketer that greets you in Blacklake with "don't forget to buy potions"

    That being said, the 'pain' comes when using the Maze Engine (or any of the post leveling-area campaigns) to level from 70 to 80. Because they changed the level offset for mob agro, the 'local' mobs will attack you in Chasm, Roethe, Hotenow and Caverns while you are trying to gather the supplies/skill nodes. Annoying, but can be done.

    Unless a dev comments that they intended to make the zone mobs unscaled, I consider it a bug that it was changed. The instanced mobs are all level 60. This was a documented change. While I never liked the high level mobs in low level zones, it was the design of the quest. Having high level players traveling around to one shot mobs isn't good game design.

    Instanced mobs are in the quests that direct you to a special map. "Defend Mantol Derith" "Rescue Prisoners From the Drow" "Defend Heartleaf's Garden"

    Mobs in the overworld maps such as Tower District are scaled to the map. Mobs in the Instanced maps are scaled to level 60.
