Aye that is where I went after I wasted money on a new companion, That being said, you have to inspect the companion to see it's category that being said, beware there are errors in the tool tips.
Why do we have to go to a content creator for answers? Why do the tooltips not say what kind of companion it is? Rainer's wiki is wonderful but it doesn't always work properly on my phone. This information should be available in game.

Well, actually the category of the companion is really not that important. What really matters is:
Is it useful as a summoned companion?
If it is meant for an offensive/defensive/utility slot, which slot does it go into and what bonuses does it give?
Whether a companion is a Fighter or Mystical is much less important in comparison.
The collections section states for example that Razorwood is Mystical but when you bind him he is slotted as a Fighter?
I used around 800K AD and got around 65 companions. I did this as many were epic and on the cheap, under 20K at one point. It allowed me to rank up 2 mythical companions to get the max bolster bonus for the companions I keep summoned.
As a side not you don't even need a good bolster bonus to hit max stats, max enchantments, or runestones. My DC has all required offensive stats for a damage dealer and 115K power using R9 and R8 enchantments and runestones.

Also, now you can see in the "inspect" screen (but not the initial tool tip) what category they are in,
