The chests in Sharandar take a while to decide what rewards a player gets. You can click on it, it will show you the rewards, you click "accept", the chest closes, still lit up, and nothing goes into your inventory.
It seems to finally end when you get something like the Redcap gear reward.

I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.

You have to keep opening and closing the chest ( took me 18 tries) until
a set of redcap bracers dropped and it gave me the items.
Just another in a long line of broken things in this game.
