Neverwinter New Player Suggestions

I just started this game, but there are some problems that I want to discuss about Neverwinter. Playing trickster rogue at the moment.

~Can't trade, add friends, mail, until level 15.

How is this welcoming, especially when you can't add friends, until LEVEL 15!? New players need to have the ability to help other players/friends.

~AFK logout timeout at 10 minutes.

Really should be 1 hour or don't have a timeout logout at all!

~I'm not sure of this, but as concerned leveling up, can I redo everything only one time at level 30 for free? The progession system seems rather lacking, especially when it's limited, and new players have no idea how to set correctly. Based upon the 2 path decision at level 30 and the decisions based on points, it is really forced on new players. I know setups can be reset or more setups can be bought for loadout, but it's really forced on you later, when you need to change your mind for first try. I just reached level 30 and I have no idea if I added my powers, feats, and all other points, correctly. I have not chosen my path of whisperstrike or Infiltrator. For the most part, I made my character 19 dexterity and sacrificed 1 point for more strength for example; seemed reasonable at start. I believe that it seems players can add more load outs? When I played Tera, even though I quit, due to company ignorance from player base; long story with XIGNCODE causing BSODs. Anyways, I liked the ability to have multiple loadouts by glyphs. Also it seems rather odd by the lack of skill advantages that can be used and can't be used to full potential. However, I did see a video that an obtainable can be earned for more points. Still, the game seems rather forced upon the player by decisions. Feats don't look bad from what I set as for now in some areas, but I felt really forced upon decision making. Not understanding the final results, all I was focused was damage and added a few that I thought would benefit me, but really doesn't. Yeah skill bar is lacking, doesn't make sense by points, when it seems other skills replace other skills, while leveling; waste of points. Otherwise the game is enjoyable.

I'm still learning, but trying to think smart, I'm new. I felt forced on decisions every time I leveled a few by adding points; doesn't seem welcoming. Learning all games is confusing at first.

The restrictions about chat/trading etc, are sadly a necessary evil in F2P games to help combat bots as well as gold sellers who love to fill up our chat channels with their spam nonsense. So while its annoying, that is the reason for it. This is actually very very common in F2P games.

You can retrain your skills or even your level 30 path choice later on in the game, so you do not need to feel concerned about a choice you made earlier not panning out later in your character's career. As far as the skill points go, you can eventually get enough points to rank 4 each and every one of them. I would say just pick the things that like look fun and feel good to you at the moment, there is plenty of time to get more in depth in the systems later on, just focus on what is fun for you and the knowledge of the game will come in time and then you can make as many course corrections for your character as you feel are needed, as everything can be retrained from ability points, powers, feats, paragon path choice.

AFK log out is after 15 minutes. Why should you take up server resources for an hour if you aren't doing anything?

Infiltrator is the correct path. Whisperknife sadly doesn't offer much, although it has some cool animations.

Every game that I play that has character builds I google and look for builds, if nothing else, to understand the powers and features, etc. There is no shortage of websites out there offering advice on how to build toon X to do Y.

Well, I corrected some feats with some astral diamonds obtained from random runs with a friend. I'm starting to get the idea, but by some aspect it does feel awkward abandoning some skills that I set, and no longer will hardly ever use. I bet it felt awkward at first for everyone. It seems like mix for play style and have fun I guess? What if we could switch skill bar layouts at a push of keyboard key? At least a way to switch on the fly during the run for different situations. Looking at guides and videos, seems to help.

You get a new loadout option at level 30.

Honestly I really don't care how I do. It's just having fun on Neverwinter. I'll figure out by looking at guides and try them as I stated. I'm figuring out everything as I play lol. Just a bit different than most mmos, because most mmos you use all the skills.

My advice if you start a new character would be to research build beforehand just to get a feel for what you want to do.

Since you've started already, I would just do whatever you want until you hit level 70 and then look to get a respec token and adjust your build as needed. All the early zones are fairly forgiving but once you get deeper in certain powers/feats/etc are definitely worse than others. The game changes at times too so expect to respec more than once in your toons lifetime.

I wouldn't waste AD on respeccing things at this point. You'll probably want that for upgrading later.

It just seemed awkward by the use of skills that you can use at one time, so the game is a bit different than most MMOs that mostly give the will to use all skills. I really like smoke bomb on the trickster :p:3

I looked at guides and I'm fine now. Thanks everyone for the hospitality.

You get Hospitality during the Protector's Jubilee.

the idea behind the first 69 levels for new players is to learn how to play your character. Try new power combinations, new methods of doing the same thing. Figure out your playstyle, then make your build match that. The guides on the net are posted from people who went through years of trouble to find the Best setup for them. Sometimes i use them, most of the time i alter them just a bit for my playstyle. Also note the guides on the net are mostly made up of endgame stats, which will differ hugely from beginning and mid-game playing. I.e. getting a 100% crit build early or mid game is impossible, so trying to form that from the guide will leave your toon lacking in other necessary stats.
