Touchpad bug

Most of the time when i press the touchpad to select something from the hub it opens my bag for no reason...

Then i have to close the bag and try it again! Sometimes up to 4 times in a row ! Really annoying .. In my experience the bag only opens when pressing L1 and D-pad Left .

But my bag also opens when pressing the touchpad.

Please add this to your repair list

They need an in game option to disable the swipe, or the touch part, of the touch pad (not the mechanical/click portion of the touchpad). PS4 does not have the option to disable this, but that seems like it would be a band aid for an overall larger problem.

I also believe it is indeed an in game issue, because everyone has this exact issue, and a vast majority of games now have some function associated with the swipe ability of the touchpad, and NONE of them have the issues I experience with NW.

That said, the same is true for control input in general. The general response time of control input is laggy and unreliable, and is more noticeable on some classes compared to others.

Then there's the eternal character "drift" when trying to do certain actions that cause continuous "action interrupted" messages. I also can confirm this is a game thing, because I can be sitting still, stationary, in place, not drifting, turn my controller OFF, walk away for a few minutes, then come back and my character will be inching itself around when I come back. Call me crazy, but it sure seems it is a GAME calibration issue with the DS4, not the ds4 controllers or the ps4. (even more so when I have 3 old and 3 new controllers, and it's an identical issue on all 6 ds4's on 2 different ps4 systems, and not a single issue on ANY other game)

Same issue and results as excat56, up above. I was even just talking to guildmates about the issue, and they experience stick drift with the DS4 and Neverwinter.

At first, I thought that something was wrong or broken with my DS4 controllers. I have 4 different DS4 controllers, with each and every one of them experiencing stick/character drift. All of the sudden my character will just move or drift, when I'm clearly not moving the stick in that direction.

It's extremely frustrating, especially when in PvP matches or dungeons. It's like the controller has a mind of its own, then reverts back to fully functional. Something is seriously off with the input controls with this game and the DS4 controllers.

    This needs to be fixed.

YES! This frustrates the hell out of me too, sometimes 4 to 5 times to get it to work properly. Needs to be an option to disable swipe function

It's not a bug though. Yes, frustrating. But not a bug. You could hop over to the feedback section and request they add a way to turn off the touch pad but even then it's just a QoL and probably not high on the to do list. You could also reach out to PlayStation and offer some feedback asking for a feature to be added to options on the console itself but again, probably not priority.

I have developed video games and was a developer for about 12 years before I changed professions, This is absolutely a bug. They can map the controls to any buttons or functionality they want to and can put code in to ignore the swiping of a touchpad. Yes there are issues with the swiping on the PS4 during other things like playing movies, but in a game you can find the target of the input and ignore it if it is coming from a source that is not the arrow keys. Now with that said, how easy it is to fix without causing other bugs or issues, is hard to say as it depends on the codebase and how the controls and ui is coded. Without seeing their code and being able to debug the problem, I can't say if it is an easy or hard thing to fix. Unless it was as the company designed it, it is absolutely a bug.

So far I haven't seen anyone explain why this would not be a bug. A bug doesn't always mean something is completely broken, but can also be something that is unintentional or not suppose to happen. It can also be bad UX design. Blaming it on the controller is silly, since I have played as others pointed out, a lot of ps4 games that use the touchpad and never seen a game have this issue. I am sure there are others that do, but I haven't seen it. Most likely in this case this would be consider a very low priority bug. It is annoying and drives me crazy when I try to join a Queue or get a reward or see an event and it does this over and over again, but it doesn't stop you from progressing. Since it doesn't crash the game, prevent you from doing an action in the game, or in any way break the game and is just annoying, it will be a low priority fix compared to something like balancing, crashes, broken quests, etc...

They may never fix it, but they will if they get enough complaints. It also depends on the workload the team has and how quickly and safely the bug can be fixed. If it is a trivial fix, then sometimes an engineer may fix it, if they have some extra time during a sprint. But if no one complains about it or puts it in feedback, then they will assume that it isn't an important enough issue to fix.

Also just to be clear the reason this is a bug is not because it is an error or broken functionality but because it is a feature that isn't work how it was intended as it doesn't cause issues with the players ability to do an action in the game.

Oh I also was a QA tester for games for about 2 years and worked on some big titles like Knights of the Old Republic 2, Star Wars Battlefront (the original), Gladius, some early cellphone games, a expansion to an old Medal of honor game, and a MMORPG.
