Gathered compies sometimes stay dead permanently

1) Summon the Alpha Compy companion.
2) Wait until she's gathered the maximum number of compies.
3) Fight until one of the gathered compies dies.
Observed Result:
A gathered compy sometimes remains dead permanently. The only way to resurrect them is by resummoning the alpha. I've observed this in Dread Ring, Demogorgon, and Tiamat.
Expected Result:
The dead gathered compy is resurrected after a brief period.
