Rather than actually having a transmute ability to change the "look" of gear. Why not have an actual tab, that you pay 5K AD to place items in, that is select-able as your characters appearance/visuals.
In this way you get to: 1) Keep the item for future use or cosmetic/transmute. 2) Get the appearance you want, expand customize-ability. 3) Allow you to keep artifact pieces that you put valuable RP into but enjoy their visual. 4) Retain the AD sink in order not to influence the market. 5) Prevent accidental destruction of items/gear with subsequent support tickets.
This transmute/appearance tab could simply be added as a second gear sheet minus the rings/other non appearance items. It could be added between the cosmetic page and the character sheet or actually combined with the cosmetic page to allow both to be labeled "cosmetic" tab. Items that are free as transmutes or equip-able like cosmetics would continue to be free to place in those slots.
Overall I think think this would be an elegant way to allow all the types of transmutations while keeping gear you may not want to lose, simultaneously simplifying the process. More options, less complication, while maintaining the AD sink that is needed.
I'd be interested in hearing other opinions, Thanks!
On ambush rings: "How would you like PVE if all the mobs were invisible?"
This would also be nice. There are times I want to change my look, but I don't want to lose the transmuted look I already have. For that matter, I would very much like my SW pact blade to look like the Hexweaver's Pact Blade from SoMI. I just don't want to consume that item to get that look....
Another thought would be, you could be allowed to put chest/weapon enchants on the pieces in this tab and those effects would be the ones that were displayed.
Like soulforge's shadowy effects but run a barkshield? Run fey for best DPS but really like the brilliant enchantments glow? This would give you the best of both worlds.
