How do I deal with Error 36?

    Error 36 is file locked and could not be opened for writing.

    Run Neverwinter as administrator. (Right click -> run as admin)

    My entire Neverwinter folder is considered "Locked" until I do.

    Update: 20 GB patch, patches 767kb, Receives 0kb, then hits error 36 file locked and could not be opened for writing.

    Still not able to play Neverwinter on Dragon shard 3 days and counting.

    You can try reinstalling NW into a folder in your Public folder instead of in Program Files. The Public folder is usually less restrictive and may work out better in the long run for you.

    So to do that, you'll need to do the following:
    1. Uninstall Neverwinter.
    2. Install Neverwinter again. At the point where it asks you where to install it, use this location:
    C:\Users\Public\Games\Neverwinter_en Note: You may need to create the Games folder in Public first.
    3. Finish the install and try running NW again.

    I'm willing to bet something has your neverwinter folder locked. Open ANY text file in the folder, modify it and try to save it. 50k AD says you can't and get a similar "Read only / Locked" error...

    Have you told your AV software that Neverwinter is safe? Put the folder in the exclusions?

    So grogthemagnif, did you get the game downloaded and playing again?

    Just got my computer back from the shop this afternoon. Downloading a 7 GB patch now (about 50% done now). Tried to download a 4 GB patch and got to the launcher, got through the Cryptic and Neverwinter screens and got to the right zone - only six patches to go, 2 loaded, 4 left and transfer speed dropped to 0 bytes. tried a gain a couple of time and same results - patched 2 of 6 and went to 0 byte speed and transfer stopped. I'll check back in 90 min when patch should be done.

    I got on after the patch and was on for several hours yesterday and several hours today.
