Items that can not be converted to RP, but should be able to be

I've heard a lot of people complain in zone chat about "not being able to convert their items to RP". That rare items, despite being level 70, can't be converted is a known issue, so I didn't think much of it, until I wanted to convert my "Cloak of the Protector" neck piece to RP.

If you right click the item, there is no option to convert it to RP. Instead there is the option to salvage it for ADs. Lously 6.000 ADs, for a legendary neck piece, by the way, but I digress.

Additionally, there wasn't an estimated amount of RP for the conversion in the tooltip of the item.

To make sure that my Cloak of the Protector wasn't a single item that is affected by this bug, I looked up the auction house and searched for "Cloak of the Protector". I looks like all items of that type aren't convertible, because they too were missing the tooltip information of the amount of RP, a conversion would give.

I submitted a GM-Ticket and looked through the forums and sub-reddits, if anyone encountered this problem before, and wrote about it. After unsuccessfully scrolling to pages of hate, I went back in-game and filed a bug report:

"Can't convert Cloak of the Protector to RP" - Ticket ID: ID #4,631,240

After this I thought it would be a good idea to post a thread in the forums, so players that encounter items that should be convertible to RP, but aren't, can let the Devs know about it.

As far as I understand, this is not a bug - purple items have never been usable for refinement, unless they are artifact equipment that have been upgraded to that level. Non-artifact items, such as the Cloak of the Protector, the Signet of Nobility, the Huntsman's Cloak, and the epic crafting items, could not be used to refine other items prior to module 12B, so the fact that you cannot convert them to refinement points seems to be to be how they're supposed to work. Instead, purple items can be salvaged - there are one or two exceptions, but on the whole, gaining 6000 rough Astral Diamonds from that single item is quite valuable, at least compared to a green level 70 item - which converts into 50 refinement points, which is equal to a Peridot (which go for a lot less than 6000 Astral Diamonds on the auction house).

I'm talking about an artifact neck piece called Cloak of the Protector.

It's part of the "Great Protector" three-piece-set, that corresponds with all the "Greater Belt" artifact waist pieces and the Cragmire artifacts.

Oh! Sorry, I got mixed up with the names - I thought this was about the item you get for free when levelling up to 70 and doing the Protector's Emissary quest. Do ignore me...
