I am trying to learn more about the game. I play an oathbound paladin. I went the devotion path instead of the protection path. I am now lvl 54 but still feel like I know nothing about the game. Any tips for a noob?

Sorry for stealing the thread but I can't creat threads yet so I'll have to ask my qestion in this one since it matches my matter the most.

Anyway. I have been a level 70 Hunter Ranger for quite some time now. I'm worknig on my campaigns and it feels like I'm making steady progress. My item level is 5,673 and it's mostly blue gear with a green artifact main hand. Evey gear have it's own enchanement. My companions have blue gear as well, mostly with an item level that is slightly below mine (around 320-isch).

But there is almost nothing I can do in the game. I don't know if I am doing something terribly wrong or what that is the probelm. No matter what quest I do I die like 10 - 20 - 30 times before I complete it. The only things I can do without dying is group missions. I have even given up on many quests since they have been completely impossible for me to do.

Right now I have arrived at the Biggrins Tomb and I died 15 times getting there. The final fight is completely impossible for me to do, I barely surive for one minute(!). I tried to do Chapter 2: A crown for the king earlier, but that was even more impossible for me to finish than Biggrins Tomb.

The problem is not that I'm specd wrong, I have followed a build since level 1. The problem is not that I'm not using enchaments and the problem is not that I have too bad gear since I always use the best gear I can find. I don't get it. What am I doing wrong? I really enjoy the game but this is just making me frustrated and I've been thinking about just giving up and uninstall the game more than a handful of times by now.

I know that a lot of people don't like the healer companion but I can't do anything without him. I get by better with him than with my striker/defender/controller. And every companion is leveled as much as possible (20 for all of them but the controller, he is at level 25).

Are anyone of you fine folks out there any advice?

Are you in a guild with gild boons, they help boost your stats.

Does your companion have bonding runestones? If not get them as soon as possible. All three must be the same level to be effective. Do not upgrade one until you can upgrade all three. After you get bonding runestones on your active companion make sure he has the best gear and enchants you have.

Have you done all your campaigns and got the boons from them? You mention you are in biggrins which is icewind dale. Have you completed the lower level campaigns? elemental evil, sharendar, dread ring? those will also give you boons that will make your character better. I ask because you mention green artifact main hand, however when you complete elemental evil you end up with both mainhand and offhand artifacts, which leads me to believe you haven't completed the easier campaigns before moving on to the more difficult campaigns

Have you equipped all mount slots, and mount insignia slots? Those help also.

Have you ran the skirmishes, prophecy of madness, throne of the dwarven god, demogorgon? those drop the 2 enchant slot rings if you get a +4 or +5.

Run all the dungeons that you can for gear upgrades or salvage to get extra AD so you can buy better gear.

If your in a guild look at the gear you can buy with guild marks, a lot of purple gear out there you can get for campaign currency and guild marks that will boost your item level and stats. At 70 you should be in purple gear almost immediately buying from stronghold and even dusk set for trade bars if you have them. Look at Artifact sets, artifact, belt, neck that give bonus stats if you have them all. Artifact pieces are super cheap right now.

Make sure you are refining your enchants, you said you had them but didn't mention what level they are, go for at least level 7 starting out they should be pretty easy to get, tradebars, ad, or pick them up at summer festival. other wise use the highest you can find then refine them as you can.

refine your artifact gear as you can, mainhand, offhand, belt, neck and artifacts.

Hope this helps, look my guild up if your on xbox 1 and I can get you into a guild that will help you with things and give you sound advice. Guild is called outsourced.

Item level 5,673 doesn't sound like much to me. Biggrins is not a cakewalk to solo if you're undergeared. You might feel like you've got good gear but it sounds like you're just scratching the surface and trying to solo content that's too hard for you. Use the chat and get a 2-3 man group together and do it that way. Or upgrade your gear to purple gear. You say you have enchants in all your slots but that doesn't really tell us the story. Are they rank 5 enchants, rank 10 enchants (im guessing not based on your item level), etc. What are you using in offense, defense, etc.

Bottom line is you need to work on upgrading your gear before you can solo certain things. I would listen to the advice above as well. Better gear, upgrade enchants, do you have weapon/armor enchants, etc etc.

Thanks for the helpful posts! I'm far from an MMORPG export and this game has been very confusing, though entertaining. I have always just done the mission that I have gotten without thinking too much about it, but I guess I'll have to be more careful about what mission I do and when from now on. I have done the Elemental evil campaign and I am working on Sharandar and Dread ring right now.

Wish I could refine my weapons but I don't have any lesser marks or wards, and they seem to be pretty hard to get so that won't happen.

    Again, thanks for your help!

Run 2 easy dungeons every day, you will get between 10-14k AD for 2 dungeon runs. Skirmishes as well. With the AD you should have no problem getting the wards / marks you need to start upgrading your gear.
