I started a hr on pc. it's going to be awhile before I can afford a dread. of the cheap weap enchants what is best for the short term? of the secondary companions which are best? is there a low level guide out there? would I be better of going combat because of this?

    Hello,

if you are starting slowly I would recommend using a Frost Enchantment and going Trapper with Crushing Rooots and rooting powers. In this way the Frost enchantment silencing covers you in the first instants of combat before roots set in and then you can stunlock pretty much everything in your way with Crushing Roots and rooting powers. The only really difficult enemies you may find are ranged heavy hitters (Deathlock Wights and the Wights in River District).
When you gear up and become stronger on the defensive side (the main problem of an HR given our poor dodge mechanics) you can switch to dread (if you stay trapper) or vorpal (if you go combat).

I don't know any low iLvL guide, but I made some videos done with a really barebone neo-70 HR (5066 ilvl) to show how to survive in Icewing Dale (and in general against level 73 mobs in campigns). Here's my channel:

Comments are in Italian as I made them for my former guildies, I plan to change them to English as soon as I get the time.

If you start with the Biggrin video you'll see that basically the character has nothing on, except Elemental Evil boons.

I see you have an highly geared ranger on XBOX so you know all the mechanics anyway, I guess.

As secondary companions I use archons and the Siege Master (all flat damage increases).

I'm not unfamiliar with the trapper. I'm nearly 16k il trapper on xbox. I was just meaning for gear considerations. my pc toon currently at about 9.1 so pretty low. it's not a matter of going slowly. it's just pc is insanely expensive. it's a million ad just for a regular dread. I spent 120 dollars on zen thinking that would be enough to get it up to speed but sadly it's not even beginning to touch it because it's so expensive lol. so yeah. atm the dread is off the table as is vorpal or lightening. archons are and siegemaster and all the regular bis companions are also amazingly expensive. I was talking about the cheapo companions that you can pick up for under 100k. a green archon is about 600-800 k ad. all the guides seem to be geared towards end game bis. I've seen people complain about it before but now I get it. if the best is not on the table for the next few months at least what is the best of the rest.

Yup, PC is quite expensive on all sides (look at the insane prices on Loyal Avenger gear). Blink Dog is a cheap companion and a good one, especially if your crit is not that high, same for Intellect Devourer. Young Yeti is a decent summoned even at green for a lov ilvl ranger, Death Slaad at green is quite cheap too. But the good stuff at purple will always cost you the 600-800k ad you mentioned or more.

Players that have been in the game for a long time have a great advantage vs. new ones: Loyal pet gear bought at low prices, a period when coalescent wards were on the Tarmalune shop at 75 bars each, etc...

For companion I would go Paranoid Delusion. It has purple quality and gives you boost damage against rooted target - it's a nice cheap dps companion if you don't have (yet) AD to get archons.

For weapon enchantment for trapper I would say you should go either one that's cheap. Terror is OKish, but you can get Perfect Vorpal as well. Vorpal won't be as good as Dread for trapper but it works fine. If you are looking for any cheap alternative - just pick anything, seriously. The enchantments like Flaming, Plaguefire, Terror got buffed and they're decent now. But still - the kinds of Feytouched, Vorpal and Dread (especially) are BiS for trapper and you will have to aim them one day.

I wouldn't recommend choosing baby as a race for an HR build, babies have a very low initial movement speed, terrible dexterity and almost no wisdom whatsoever. If you must choose baby, be certain to get the "caregiver" companion from the neonatal starter pack (zenstore) with 3 defence slots and the "think of the children" attack, (summons "father" who distracts the enemy until player switches instances). Very useful when soloing at low levels.

I'd also suggest any gear/enchants that boost experience gain, otherwise you're looking at about 16 to 18 years of playtime before your character really starts performing, and finally recieves the "hormonal rage" racial feature. (+1 to all attributes, 99% chance of wearing all black).

No idea what my toon is now.
