Trying to get a Guild started and built up now can be almost impossible. My guild is about 1 years old and only level 2 because most players are already in a higher level guild and stay there. Getting players to join the guild can be somewhat easy but getting them to help build it up is another. At one point in time I had about 100 players in the guild now I am down to 20 because I deleted players that was not helping out the guild. Take it into ind what you might be getting into so it don't come as a surprise to you when you get stuck at times. Good luck.
I started a guild on my own (I paid four strangers a Unified Element each to set it up) six months ago, and with a core of about four other players with odd contributions from others we hit GH 4 on Friday, finished Market 2 today and are well placed to advance the four production lots before going for GH 5 in about a month.
If you find the right people, and can make an alliance with a good helm guild who will help you out, you can do it.
And the buzz of building something from scratch can not be replicated by jumping straight in to level 20 and riding on the back of the hard work of other people.
Sure, being in a low level guild won't give you easy boosts through boons, but the fun and satisfaction of doing it yourself is worth just as much.
But trust me on this, if you want the guild to work be prepared to sacrifice a lot of the time you would be spending on developing your character on daily and weekly grinds in campaign zones to feed the mimic.
I understand the draw to starting your own guild and agree that is extremely rewarding to build something from scratch on your own, however most do not calculate the full cost in resources and time to build a guild completely up from the ground. After 6 months of a LOT of hard work and time investment, my guild is just now reaching the half-way point on our journey to Guild Hall 20 at Guild Hall 14 [GH14 is considered the halfway point in consideration of the number of structures you need to build]. We got a quick start due to my allies in the game and a hard-headed attitude to not accept defeat even when things looked grim, however for a player who is struggling to find the starting 4 friends to put the guild into creation your growth as a guild may not be as swift.
Please keep in mind if you choose to make your own guild that there are a couple thousand guilds in the game at this point and no where near enough players to fill all of the rosters. Especially in the first few months but also throughout the time of running a guild, you will need to get and maintain a player base. Without players to share the weight, the struggles of the hungry coffer will be on your shoulders. I would recommend as soon as possible setting up a recruiting message, making your guild and roster searchable, finding an alliance to get things going, and get out there recruiting. Besides just bringing people in, you will want to consider figuring out a method for filtering out players who quit playing the game so you can replace them with active players to maintain activity. Even extremely active guilds still need to filter inactive players out and bring in new players each and every week, and recruiting will be a constant necessity to maintain your guild.
As mentioned before but it is DEFINITELY something important to consider, building a guild will be in no way an easy or fast task. While the pace of your building will go at whichever pace you are prepared to run at, the tasks as you grow will become large. Just one upgrade can take in the range of half a million campaign currencies, 200,000+ gems, and various other resources. Keep in mind at only the half-way point, it will take 8+ of these upgrades to be able to progress to the next guild hall level which become a monster of a task if you do not have the players to help.
While I fully support players making their own guilds and building up a community as I have done myself, I would highly suggest if you are not far along in the game to consider joining up on an already existing guild. Keep in mind every guild that is not Guild Hall 20 yet is still struggling to build up structures and find active players, so joining forces could be the better option in the end if you are not ready to tackle the mountain of running your own guild. You still have the opportunity of becoming apart of the leadership team in an already existing guild if you show you are willing to contribute and help lead, while also learning the game from experienced players and making friends in a community that has already been set up.
Whichever you decide, happy gaming! I hope to see you around in game and if you ever have any questions or need any help, please feel free to reach out to me.
