Building my character vs building my companion

Which should come first? My toon is 3k so I am not hurting when it comes to running most dungeons or any campaigns. So if I get more out of building my companion with bonding runestones then wouldn't it make sense to build him first?

Yes, build companion first.....focus on bondings first, then the stones in your companion equipment slots...then back to your toon

Well I just upgraded from 3 greater bonding runes to 2 perfects and a r12 and I was amazed at the difference just really frustrated with illusionist gambit best I have gotten so far is a +3 after 100+ runs. To top it all off I got my first +5 ring but it's a ring of sudden defence and I am a gwf smh!!!

hang on to plus fives but aim for plus fours. plus fours are way better than plus fives (and I for one am ok with that because you can get plus fours a lot easier than plus fives. people whining about the plus fours being better than the plus fives and suggesting they switch them have rocks in their heads lol)

also don't upgrade your bondings NOW wait til thursday when we get 2xrp. you'll get them twice as high with same rp.

Building your companion is what I call "invisible damage" ide go for your character first as your item level is the FIRST thing 99% of people look at when putting groups together.

Come next month, companions will count for ilvl too (with 10B update). Besides, most people that know their stuff will look at your companion too (at least for end-game groups).

Actually, +3 drops from IG are selling for pretty good AD at times, so these are also welcome.

As far as looking at IL or companion, in the lack of time I usually check others' companions first. Actually (now that I know about that) just a quick look at the types of companions used is often a good predictor of how long that run of IG is going to be. And if I see no tank or healer in a group and no-one has *any* bondings I'm pretty sure we are screwed, and I would vote 'no' after the first round. :disappointed:

I am End game and Ive never heard of anyone checking companions when putting together groups. Personally I check the type of character then the equipment their using (i.e weapon set, artifacts, and artifact equipment) THEN item level.

    1st glance.. IL.
Then check rings, cos IL is easy to boost with ineffective HAMSTER. ( "Ooh... two plus five rings... oh. vanishing presence and cowardice... ")
If there's time have a squint at companions.
The amount of times I've seen 2.5k+ characters with summoned companions that not only don't have bonding, (that's an option after all) but have something like one blue L 96 equipped item and two blue enchantments... bonkers...

his toon is 3k. it's definitely at this point you need to have your bondings up if you want to be effective in end game content. going into any of the end game dungeons without at least r10 bondings will be a painful thing. I'd agree that people look at il first and foremost and that matters to a point but I think he's past that point. 3k is a very respectable gs. now is definitely the time to look at getting the companion buffed out.

Well I use an epic air archon at the moment I have a fire as well with a couple others not sure which to make legendary. I know that it gives you 15% of their stats but I seen on a video a guy had one of his companions legendary but had another summoned. Now I am not sure that he had the companion geared up or not I assume that he did. But wouldn't it make more sense to use your legendary companion so that you don't have to grind enough gear for 2? By IG I assume that you mean Illusionist gambit I just pulled a +4 that is all defence my toon is a gwf so tried to sell it and it is account bound.

Doesn't matter which you make Gold.
It's basically an additional "active" bonus. As long as the legendary companion is in your active list, it adds 15% of the SUMMONED companion's stats.
Effectively, if you have R12 bondings, it rounds out the overall bonus to 300% of the companion's stats. Except that 15% is constant, and Companions Gift needs to proc.

(I asked all about this last year, and after some initial disagreement, with some saying you needed to summon the legendary for it to work, it was pretty well put to bed by a couple of very long term PC players.)

I would go the cheap way. Depending on class. Nothing wrong with an aug. Stats go to you, runestones cheap, they can proc a sudden strike. Run gambit for companion rings, dont worry about the small stuff. If your having trouble, where?

To be honest that may be an OK advice for the first 2-4 weeks of playing the game, though even then a properly selected summoned companion - defender or healer maybe better. You shouldn't run IG to get the rings at that point though (or at any point for that matter - personalized rings would do fine to begin with, then you may try to get some Offense/Offense rings from the demo).

Having the bondings to 12 early at 3k will hide parts of your build and play style that suck. if your build is garbage, you will still be garbage.

But not having the bondings means you are exposed to how the build and play style suck and can make adjustments sooner than just falling under the rank 12 bonding crutch.

Kids these days just want to get 3k and msva their way within a month of playing this game. Good luck with that.
