"dodging" affecting GF AP gain?

littlebiblittlebib Member Posts: 8 Arc User
I was running CN yesterday with my standard rotation - fox's cunning, constricting arrow, cordon, fox shift to get in, plant growth, steel breeze.

GF then told me not to "dodge". When asking why I didn't get a response (not the point of this post, but very annoying) so I didn't change. We wiped on Orcus. Then I had 3 people in the party swearing at me because I was dodging. They finally told me that it was preventing the GF from gaining AP. I still don't know if this was a power - one of the Fox ones? - or actual dodging with the right stick. Is this a known issue that I was just blissfully unaware of? I've run a lot of CN have never heard of this before.

Thanks

LOL, it may be an issue. Would not think the Fox dodge would act this way, something else broken. I would not believe the shift (right stick) would have any impact for anyone but yourself.

Fox cunning is a forced dodge for the group. It means the GF isn't taking damage from orcus. The GF needs the damage from orcus so his AP is filled and he can use a daily. Barring that, he'll have to try to keep up his shield indefinitely which cannot happen.

He could've been better and used your dodge to his advantage. Orcus is highly predictable and everyone can see when you get a free dodge. He could've used that time to refill his stamina bar. Oh well

Very interesting. Thanks for the information. I suspect it will never come up again (this was the first time I ever saw it) so I'm just glad that I wasn't totally off my rocker here.

Well, if your GF asked you not to dodge, you should comply to his/her wishes.

To make sure that the GF's doing a better job of protecting you (since you aren't allowed to dodge) ask your GF to run KV.
After the GF aggros the boss, purposely stand right next to the GF and do your usual HR thing.

Your GF "did" ask politely to tell you to not dodge, so you only adjusted your playstyle to compensate for the teamwork.

the other thing we can do to help out gf is to use the daily slashers mark. it helps restore stamina. foxes cunning is currently bugged wiht wild hunt rider which everyone and their dog uses so I think as a community fox is currently frowned upon anyway. I only use it if people are realllllly struggling to survive figuring survival is more important than the buff.

    Weird.
    Primary tank here.
I play with HRs all the time and never been bothered by their dodge. We gain AP by receiving AND causing damage. So AP gain would not stop completely anyway.

I have and will never, ever chastise my teammates for avoiding AoEs.
We tanks usually have the opposite problem, especially if we use Knights Valor.

If you need a tank who will let you dodge to your heart's contentment, send me a PM.

But then, my main is a spiked turtle with Permashield.
Maybe this only affects Tacts or DPS Conqs.
    Paging @rjc9000 !
Is "do not dodge" a tactician thing?

Well, tbh, I prefer to think of my build as "a tank build which happens to use Tactician feats" than a "Tactician build which happens to tank" (there's a subtle difference in there).

But, really, I have no clue why this GF is not welcoming the brief reprieve. It's not like the Martial Mastery AP Gain bonus is that amazing that DCs will live and die by this AP Gain.

If this GF is trying to simply hide behind their shield all day in Spellplague/Svardborg/FBI, well, they're going to have a bad time. Part of me feels guilty for reccomending Steel Defense as a training wheel class feature, but, well, I can't transfer my understanding of the GF to others, so I try my best in my writing.

@rjc9000 I suspected this mostly had to do with steel defense. Nothing with martial mastery. I can remember when I initially tanked orcus I lived and died by him hitting me through my shield so I could fill my ap and use fighters recovery and with it steel defense.

That's even worse if your GF is using it purely for Steel Defense: it should make no difference in practice, since both Cunning and Steel Defense give one hit of invincibility, albeit for varying uptimes. If anything, Fox's Cunning should be slightly better, since it isn't restricted to 3 seconds.

I have no clue why your GF is trying to spam invincibilty, since you only need the invincibility when Orcus is about to hit you.

I tell you why. Primary HR trapper, seccondary GF tactcian here.

It may be one of the two:

    1. This GF has really low stamina regen (or poor management) and can't hold shield for long, he needs AP to get steel defense and shield bash Orcus to refil stamina.

    2. He is too greedy and wants to either constantly apply buffs while invincible (steel defense) or deal some dps while invincible cause he's a conqueror GF.

I met a GF once who kicked me from CN, cause I was constantly on the move with my HR and he said I was "jumping like and idiot" and it disturbs his tanking.

That GF was bad. He didn't use shield talent. Support needs to adapt to teammates, as long as you're not standing in red or doing some dumb HAMSTER then the tank needs to be prepared to tank in any circumstances. If he lacked stamina to miss out on one orcus hit for ap gain then his build sucks and he should feel bad for sucking
