My 2.5 GF was the only character to not get wiped in IG phase 2 the other day. He was in with a group who were all 3.1k+. Reflect damage kicked in and even the 4k DC got burned. He doesn't do much damage, but survived long enough for everyone else to earn back in and finish the silver phase. Ẃe went on and got gold. At the end, his highest position on the boards was third on damage taken.
While the scoreboards are a nice way for DPS to puff their chests out, they don't particularly reflect very well every character's contribution to a successful resolution.
Is the point of this discussion to talk about why no should care about the stupid leaderboard at the end of dungeons or why we should care about the number of times we run these dungeons and consistently get garbage? If they want to make the content repeatable why not let us choose the rewards that we want to work towards? Why not let us collect residuum (that stuff that in real D&D was used to make enchanted items) to fashion it into whatever the heck we wanted...the higher the plus, the more we'd have to grind the dungeon. Or hey...how about at least letting us choose our legendary items when they drop...I know a lot of work went into creating that +5 Ring of Orcus, but we really don't want it.
The way I see it, group success should manage the main reward, and if you're opening a chest with a key, particularly one you bought, then that should have the same drop rate chance for everyone. It takes the HAMSTER with power sharing sharing DCs and GFs chucking ITTF left and right when some guy says "I did more damage than you so I should get more goodies"
And which leaderboard? Cause my pally is usually on top of two of them just like the deeps are....only on two different boards cept if I wasnt in the run, the deeps would lead the most death board too, wait, they run in without me all the time and die so yeah, I guess they are on more boards...
I don't think paingiver has anything to do with RNG
As far as drops go, certainly for skirmishes and the +1 to +5 rings and companion gear I'd like to see more relevant scaling. I'm not usually bothered by whatever I get but last night, I got a green +1 companion ring for a Gold run on IG. I would understand anyone feeling cheated with that. I'd suggest. Bronze +1 to +3 Silver +2 to +4 Gold +3 to +5
I'm wondering if the so called "runners up" in the OP were actually 1st on a different leaderboard. I can't see it being possible that the OP was first on all of them. Too bad this has become a "hit and run" thread.
It's just RNG, like the 'board game' you finish and the dice are rolled to determine the prize from a pre-made table...it seems to have nothing to do with your damage output, the speed of the run or how well you did in the run. The only one that seems to use silver/gold is eDemo for the twisted ichor. Although I heard you can not get a +5 in IG unless you hit gold, but idk that to be a fact.
I think that loot tables in P&P games probably offer a false equivalency. Good DMs don't use them, and even Gary Gygax said (and I'm paraphrasing now,) that good DMs only roll dice for the noise they make. If you played in a D&D game with a good DM, you'd rarely come away from a dungeon with a sack full of useless gear, and certainly not for your main "prize". I did once play a game of Rolemaster under a GM who held the dice as the arbiter of all. Worst HAMSTER game I ever played in. DMs who blame HAMSTER dice rolls for players disappointment aren't doing it right.
So when they start playing a version of the game that HAS to by its very nature be governed by strict RNG, it can feel like being cheated. When its far more likely that your old DM was ignoring the dice to enhance the game.

Yep. Many DPSers give little credit to the support characters who keep them alive.

I remember in EQ you could order pizza through the game lol.
