Demon Set VS Lostmauth Set

What set is better for a great weapon fighter demon or lostmauth? This question has plagued me for awhile and may not be as easy to answer as many of you think. Im a 3.6k GWF using the fully refined lostmauth set, during a castle never run I scored the highest damage beating out a 4k TR and a 3.8k GWF BOTH were using the demon set. I analized them both very carefully and from companions to enchantments and every possible scenario I could think of but couldnt come up with a logical answer other then maybe both lagged? The demon set has stats not ideal for a dps such as deflection were as lostmauth has all the dps stats in every piece. The bonus for the demon set is also very unclear, do UP TO 20% bonus damage depending on diffrence in HP between player and target? if it was a consistant 20% ide get it but the effect may not work depending on mine or my opponents health. The Lostmauth set does an additional hit for weapon damage forma critical hit which is ideal for me given my build is a high crit build. So please somebody give me a detailed description based on numbers and statistics why I would drop an insane amount of AD to switch to and refine the demon set. Thank You! ☺

(Due to my nicknaming tendencires, I will refer to the "Demon Set" as "Orcus set" and "Losty" or some variation thereof for the Lostmauth set, if that's alright?)

Both sets are good options for the typical high crit PvE GWFs.

Losty set is nice, but on the runs I've parsed with GWFs with Losty set, the damage is barely 1-5% of their total DPS (your milage may vary, of course).

Orcus set's passive damage bonus will provide a bigger DPS boost than all of the Lostmauth set procs combined (for the exact % DPS increase off Orcus, you'd best contact a mad scientist like Sharpedge or an expert GWF like Lia or Lazalia.)

Yes, the Orcus set damage bonus is a scaling damage bonus. The formula would look something like this:

    Orcus set % damage bonus = | Your % HP - Your Opponent % HP |/5

Say I am at 100% health and my opponent is at 50%.

    |100 - 50 |/5 = % damage bonus
    |50|/5 =% damage bonus
    10=% damage bonus

The Orcus set bonus can eventually hit 20% bonus damage... but only if your opponent is about to die and you're at full health, or if you have 1 HP, and your opponent has full health. I am not sure of the exact average % damage increase, so you'd best contact a mad scientist like Sharpedge, or an expert GWF like Lia or Lazalia.

Just because someone has the Orcus set does not mean that they automatically outDPS you ... build, skill, timing, and rotation factor in too (Perhaps you know what you're doing better than those Orcus set players... or perhaps you're running ahead of them, killing everything before they have a chance to deal any DPS?)

A fellow DPS GF of mine, Bethel, uses the Lostmauth set and he rekts my Orcus set wearing Conqueror GF in DPS almost all the time (I know this is about GWFs, but both DPS GFs and GWFs can use the Orcus set).

About the stats: yes, you get Deflect, which sucks. However, I would be more concerned about loosing a lot of ArmorPen (off the cloak, belt, and artifact) as well as 2 DEX (worth 2% Crit and other junk we don't care about).

    TL;DR?

Orcus set is the absolute best set for a PvE critbased GWF. If you want to maximize every single % of your DPS, then pick it up.

Otherwise, if you're budged concious, the Lostmauth is good enough for most, if not all of the game's content.

That was very enlightening thank you for the detailed response. During that castle never run I beleave I was running ahead of everyone and getting damage before my team had the chance so that may he why I scored higher in damage since its unlikely anyone with gear like that would be ignorant to proper rotation and skill point investment. The reason I posted this question is because of the new drop rates making the "Orcus" set much cheaper to obtain. Im still considering switching over but im a little hesitant because its still alot of AD and im not sure the diffrence in damage will be great enough to invest so that much, not to mention the time and resources spent refining it to max.

Personally I kept the Lostmauth set for a while but slipped down Paingiver to other GWFs who had it. Swapped out and climbed back on top. I was always 4.2k so the set made the difference.

Tbh not a massive difference so if you don't have the AD then don't sweat it. The Paingiver isn't the be all and end all. You get the same drops as everyone else and it's broken anyway.

Don't let Dungeons become a di** measuring contest and have fun. You'll know if you did well or not personally.
