PvP baby steps

I am going to try to catalogue my experience trying to become competitive in pvp. I usually have bad experience in pvp, but I try to improve my situation by doing at least one match each time I log on.

I play a fully Righteous DC Divine Oracle.
My item level is 2,525.
I have the drowned weapon set, refined up to blue level, with a Feytouch Enchant (not greater or lesser, just Feytouch, right in the middle)
I have a lionsmane helmet
I have Warborn armor with Elven Battle Enchant (not greater or lesser, just Elven, right in the middle)
I have Warborn boots, to get the 2 piece bonus of +500 tenacity
I have Elemental Burning bracers

I have Prestige boots, but I am not using them right now because I want the 2 piece set bonus of the Warborn set. I will replace as I get more pieces of the Prestige set.

I have Lionsmane necklace (I could use Tiamat necklace, currently refined to purple level
I have 2 Lionsmane rings
I have the Tiamat Belt, refined up to purple level
I have gemmed purple shirt and pants

My total tenacity is a little over 4,000.
I have about 170K AD.

My enchants in everything are all r7, with a couple r8.
For artifacts I have purple lantern, purple Tiamat orb, and 2 purple sigils (DC and CW I believe)
My companions are blue/green. I do not have any bonding stones.
My campaign boons are about 75% done.

I am using Break the Spirit, Forgemaster Flame, and Astral Shield as my encounters in pvp.

I die constantly in pvp, usually 10+ times while the rest of my team will usually die 2-3 times. I get very few, usually 0, kills. I currently have about 12,200 glory and 320 seals of triumph. My hope is that I can eventually become competitive without shelling out massive cash.

My plan is when I finally get to 19,000 glory and 400 seals, to purchase the Prestige bracers. I am also saving up refinement from leadership profession (level 25) to try to push my drowned weapon set and at least one artifact to a higher level. But I am open to suggestions.

Yesterday I logged on and did 2 domination matches. Both times I was in a pug group facing the exact same 5 man premade all from the same guild. They were item level 3.8K-4.2K. My team was item level 1.8K-3.2K. Both matches' competitive phase ended almost immediately, but thankfully the guild premade was kind enough to let us cap to get at least 600 points so we could get some rewards. My reward for each match was about 108 glory. No seals of victory today, but I'm hopeful that in the time it takes to go from 12K glory to 19K glory I will land on the overpowered team at least twice to get up to 400 seals.

So that is where I am and where I am headed. I post it here to see if the community has thoughts on anything I might change (besides "spend lots of $" or "quit pvp") My ultimate goal is to stay a Righteous DC, and be able to actually be competitive in damaging while not constantly dying in 2-3 hits.

Who knows, maybe in a match later today when I log on I'll get lucky :)

Rough day. Did 2 domination matches. First one against a premade, we lost 1000-60. But they didn't let us cap. Despite our pleas, they just killed us whenever they saw us. I guess they needed to up their kill stats. No rewards from that one. Second match we were winning 850-350 when suddenly my loading screen appeared and I was back in PE. Nothing to indicate that I had been in a pvp match. It just suddenly booted me out. Too bad, could have used those seals of triumph I almost had there. This is the 2nd time this has happened in a pvp match in a week. Anyone else seeing this?

Heh. That's a bummer. Managed to not get kicked in two more matches :). Lost one, won one. So ever inching closer to.... something.

Good luck, pvp can be a brutal enviorment, its best to find a group of friends and pvp with them.

Well I play solo queue evenings (EU) and for the past week all Ive encountered were high IL premades from either Forsaken Rebels or Synergy or some German guild name I cant even type or Thieves World or RW Force or whichever else pvp guild there is. So PVP is getting worse from my perspective.

dont forgett about PolishdominationPL or how ever they are called^^

there is like 1 out of 10 matches you can win, if you are playing just for fun.

you do the right things, you will die less and less in the futue
DC suffer from low contorl, deflect can help you with that.
you should get PVP artifact such as oghma (SW sigil got nice stat)
try to get good mount combos, i use yeth and snowswift and they works nice in PVP
get R8 silvery and refine it R9. its cheap and easy to get.

As DC u are allways the first target cause you can heal and protect others. use that for your advantage.
u can drag strong players outside the nod. hide behind other players.
healing can help in some situation.
sometime all u need is to survive a 1 on 1 situation for a few min and you win.

i who'd recomend playing rightous to get all boons fast. after that playing healer is easy and most recomeded for PVP

good suggestions. The past couple of days I have been pretty lucky. Got 2 wins and 2 losses, but with enough points to get some rewards, so now I am up to about 580 seals and about 14.5K glory, which means it is just a glory grind now to get the prestige bracers :)

I looked at the Oghma artifact. It looks very nice but is currently going for about 680K AD, which is a bit out of my price range for now. Does it drop from anywhere or is it only from the Zen store random boxes?

I am also looking into jewelcrafting master profession to make some rosegold rings, but I have the lionsmane rings and am not sure the gain is so much to be worth the investment.

If 680k is too much for you, dont even bother with master crafting...j/s

Well, I am getting close. I am up to 17.7K glory and 620 seals of triumph, so just a bit longer I can get the prestige bracers. After that, I am getting the impression in my matches that my biggest issue is my artifacts and artifact gear. Given they are only purple, I am saving up for the double refinement even later this month to try to push them up a bit. Also when I face an overpowered team, I inspect them to figure out what they are doing right. I would say that 95% of them are using a turquoise Wheel of Elements artifact. I checked the AH and saw there are green ones there for 400K AD. I currently am up to about 270K AD, so I could aim to get one of those in the medium future. Would that be worth it?

That 95% could be about right. It's very popular and has 2 (of 4 possible) uses. Choosing a fire buff will raise your power several thousand points for a period of time, choosing a water buff will heal you to full (I think) in a couple of rounds. So it's a good artifact whether you are weaker (and need the healing) or stronger (and want the extra power).

Yes , it is a good artifact. 30 percent more dps for 30 seconds, 100 percent health over a few seconds, control immunity for 6 seconds and temp hitpoints(the hitpoints granted dont respect tenacity so that one is pretty meh). A good thing to note about doing alot of pvp, is you can buy feeders for glory, one of each kind when you have unlocked enough of the campaign, it makes getting mythic artifacts SOoo much cheaper.
  • plaviaplavia Member Posts: 540 Arc User
i use wheels as well :)
it have good stat and it works great. but two in a party can be a problem as it got 1 min cool down.
if u plan on buying artifact look at the stat as well.

Well I did it. Finally got enough glory to get the prestige bracers. Used them to replace my elemental burning bracers. and....my item level went up by about 7. They are nice to have, but at this point, I'm not feeling ready to grind out for the prestige helmet to replace my lionsmane helmet until I get my artifacts up to orange.

Il really is a useless metric :/ You are better off using the stats on your character sheet to track your progress

I guess I have finally arrived. Was in a match and was told "@#!$ you" by a hunter I had just killed. That hasn't happened in... ever. But now I'm doing enough to enrage the other team, so that is a step in the right direction B)
