Hunter Ranger after Storm King's Thunder Update... What did you do to our DPS?

caspur33caspur33 Member Posts: 27 Arc User
The changes you made to the HR class after SKT have seriously ruined our DPS. I am doing 20 million less in ToTDG and 40 less in CN. Our strongest feature was the ability to use our Encounter powers non-stop with few At-wills in between and you have removed the ability to do so. HR is already one of the hardest classes to do significant DPS (Just above the TR) so why would you make it even harder for us? I thought the changes were supposed to help us not hurt us. Now I am getting kicked from CN because of unbearably low DPS. And the abilities that you did "buff" are still completely useless besides the buff given to Longstrider's Shot.

Way to go nerfing a class that was already having a hard enough time trying to come close to keeping up with top DPS classes.

This is me today, Mod 10 http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/wdj40/video/22568045 solo against the No Sympathy Devils... Rotation is fine and I will try out some other rotations soon.

This is me yesterday in CN, also Mod 10... I ran it 3 times and topped the charts every time. Out damaging people 1k + IL above me http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/wdj40/video/22560986 (although in this clip my Group mates were still in the process of trying out builds, so all of us brand new to the changes).

Both these clips I made straight after the changes without any practice to get used to the changes etc.

Anyhoo I have not even respecced yet and not sure exactly what I will do yet. Trapper is alive and kicking if you know how to play it properly :)

Just make sure if you are using Swiftness of the Fox, that you put an At-Will and preferably a Daily as well in every rotation that you do. Also a bit of Recovery will help out with cool downs even for a Trapper.

Edit... also just to let you know this is me in Tanky/Support mode, I have not even switched/respecced back to DPS, I am having so much fun I doubt I will switch back to full on DPS.

This wasn't a nerf at all, I've been playing like that with my HR for a long time tbh, and my cooldowns actually got better after this patch, the only weird thing is that Cordon of Arrows' anim became kinda tricky to cancel, either you watch the full animation and shoot or you simply don't, lol.

That doesn't appear to be your standard Trapper build (I didn't see any of the green vines sprouting). Was there a published build you used for this?

Yeah Oak Skin is used in the 2nd clip I posted there :)

I only use that for the last parts of CN, in conjunction with Fox's, as it adds massive survivability to the group. Oak Skin has just had a small buff too :)

Unless you are on about Plant Growth? When you say Vines? That has never really been part of any of my Build's, I used that to get through some parts of Dungeons quicker but it has just had its AoE reduced to 5 enemies. So I probably will never use it again now as I never really liked CoA/PG in the 1st place... Much prefer Hindering Shot/Strike :)

Yes, Plant Growth. Now that we have another free respec, I'm trying to decide what I want to do. Nearly every Trapper build I've seen uses CoA/PG and yours clearly didn't so I was very curious what you were doing.

My normal everyday set up is Longstriders>Constricting>Hindering, with Disruptive Shot and Slashers Mark as Dailies. But I switch to Fox's>Binding>Hindering for tough areas of the game like the last parts of CN and Orcus.

But I have recently discovered that having extremely high levels of Defence and Deflect, then all the boons to reflect damage back on Deflects + lots of healing boons etc makes for a very very powerful HR. You don't really lose much DPS by switching to a much more defensive and supportive build. Also there is a new Boon which we cannot get yet (need to grind the new content for it) which reflects even more damage back.

It is extremely fun... but I have yet to use my respec token either, still unsure what I want to do yet too lol. I really want to try Hybrid and also full combat.
