Salvaged & Discarded Items

rem0te1rem0te1 Member Posts: 14 Arc User
I have discarded in error an epic lvl 137 item (almost legendary) and salvaged an epic elemental weapon (part of a set) in error. I have contacted support and asked them to do something about the discard & salvage buttons and they suggested I raise the issue on the forum.

This issue is so easily fixed that I suspect that ARC are not correcting it on purpose! They know players are discarding/salvaging their items in error on occasion. People contact them about it all the time. Trust me

To discard/salvage an item, the controller input is usually pressing 'A' then 'A' again to confirm. This is sequential (A then A again) Players that are therefore rushing or hurrying can easily discard the item before consciously realizing what they have done!. Everything on neverwinter is timed. Buffs, potions, invocations events everything!. The game mechanics encourage players to subconsiously rush, or feel a sense of urgency when playing. Your then blamed when you inevitably make a mistake.

Everyone please note that within the Zen Market this problem doesn't exist. Foreinstance, you cant accidentally 'purchase' something on the Zen market. The controller command input required isn't sequential here! You have to press 'A' then 'X' button here to confirm, i.e the confirm button isn't the same as the button pressed before it. This is what they should be doing for salvage/discard. Problem solved. Discarded/salvaged items item should be a matter of record and not even open to abuse in the first place and should definitely be replaced. They represent an large investment of time and money on the players part.

Of course it is very lucrative and profitable for Perfect World/ARC to not correct this issue. Un-replaced item's have to be replaced by the player at a large cost of time or money , often both. Either that or walk away from the game altogether and your investment in it completely.

I agree the key combo should be different to confirm discarding vs salvaging (should be the case for professions as well) but that can only go so far. When you're flying through salvaging 100 rings, and you accidentally salvage your orange twisted off hand.. .exactly how is changing any key press going to help that?

One thing that should be done is to implement something that prevents salving any items with an enchant in it. A second good idea would be to be able to "lock" items so they cannot accidentally be salvaged.

It only takes one miss-click, one tap down extra or (more often) one lag spike and you go from the 'Refine...' to the 'Discard' option, even with your Armor pieces you can go from 'Refine enchantment' to Discard in a single move, its really easy to throw away your Masterwork chest piece with a Pure Enchantment and a Rank 12 in it.

I agree. It becomes a matter of muscle memory. If they change the buttons, people will adapt and the problem will start anew. Why is there a need to hurry in salvaging item? I do like the "lock" ability though.

Sorry Customer service are pretty fair if you are polite and will replace accidentally discarded Items, they can only replace at the last full refined point "tween points" are not recorded by the server so you will lose those.
I have had a number of pops at the devs for stuff in the game however this is not one of them.
The key thing is clarity and civility and acting before rollover (filing a support ticket).

    Cheers

It used to be a lot easier to accidentally discard things you were wanting to refine. They have since changed the position of the discard option in the menu, to try to make it harder to accidentally do.

I like both of these ideas. An extra and/or very distinctly different confirmation for artifact gear or purple quality enchantments seems like a prudent step as well.

I'm always super careful when donating items to the Stronghold mimic. That Surplus Equipment Voucher is right there with my drowned artifact weapon that I only equip for PVP.

I don't think the UI is done the way it is to cause players to make mistakes. That would only frustrate players, and frustrated players are less likely to stick with the game long term. It's more likely a choice that seemed good when they did the initial UI design but that should be improved upon.

Me too. Going fast doesn't increase the reward.
