Mod10 Trapper : longshot vs Skirmisher's Gambit

aderonzaderonz Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 120 Arc User
Heya fellow trappers,

I just played a little bit of PVP and PVE with my trapper and found out that my rotations are more consistent just by having 3k recovery and using disruptive shot or a CtG before switching stance. Which makes me believe that trapper cunning and forestbond are not a must anymore, which is why i will either take longshot or skirmisher's gambit to increase my dps.

Skirmicher's Gmabit : +5% LS, +2.5% deflect, +50% severity , -7.5% CS

Longshot : bonus weapon damage for ranged powers only, 300% for encounters and 500% for disruptive

which one do you think, grants better dps ? (i play on linux so i dont have the means to compare both build with ACT )

Both are "gimmick" builds, other is a burst one--> gambit and the other relys on thornward-->LS, if i remember correctly.

Both are viable in PVE, and grant good dps, LS is harder to manage i think, been long since i ran that build. I run a gambit one now, testing it out, and so far no DPS problems in PVE, i dont PVP anymore.

LS might be better in PVP, but what i know, PVP relies heavily on power/arpen builds and crit isnt that useful. Both Gambit and LS rely on crits to make the dps.

I suggest you test them out or try to find someone to give you more info about the builds.

Both builds can be found via google and on this forum i think.

Gambit is definitely worth it if you have the crit % and spare points to spare. Sadly, most builds other than Combat don't have the spare points.

Longshot downright sucks. Don't do it. It's *weapon damage*. So if you do a 100k aimed shot crit, you'll do another ~1500 damage. That's it. 150k CoA crit? About +3k extra damage.
So it's not a huge boost at all.

    hybrid builds

I did try longshot to fix a bug in my toon but as Aaramis75 said damage is not as great as seems on paper and you loose some of the HR smoothness from trapper build. So I went back to trapper and everything runs smoother.

Trans dread works well for me so Going gambit does not pay off for me but I tried it before mod 10.just gambit wont help with pvp hurts trappers control so either full combat or Trapper. As far as PVP I don't have the big boons of a PVP guild but other wise My trapper is BIS and doing well now .In the right situations Aimed shot works in PVP. I am seeing Combat in PVP and they are have some nice success when I find one I team up with them and trapper combat is a deadly team

Since in the 'best of two worlds' thread @marnival says that he's tested lucky blades vs. gambit and lucky blades actually does more damage, I think the better question here might be whether a trapper/lucky blades hybrid is better than a gambit or longshot hybrid. Think about it: 15% added encounter damage for a trapper.

Especially in pvp as the crit tenacity is closer to 50 now, doing 15% extra on every encounter that is non crit with makes the differance when I test it.

If you manage to get crit severity to new heights with crit 60% + after gambit using dread/vorpal maby you get a different result but am not there.

I see quite some combat using fey still but some use vorpal some use dread so I guess testing is still going on even for the elite pvp guilds.

I have to admit that some combat Hr are delivering terrifying bursts but then again they are like 4+IL with full pvp SH boons ....

    Hi aderonz,
For PvE - I will recommend hybrid between trapper and combat - skirmisher's gambit. You can always cap your critical chance to 80%++ with bonding 12, potions, and foods. And with the used of Trans Dread, this gonna be an insane HPDS build for PvE. If you have hard time to cap your crit chance above 80%, then go for longshot.
For PvP - Full trapper is better than hybrid due to crit resistance.
