High level enchantments

Where are people getting these from? I see a lot, even rank 12's, on the AH. Are people just refining these up? Do they drop in dungeons somewhere? Can they be crafted?

It feels like I'm missing something here?

Any advice welcomed!! :)

Rank 8s drop in Castle Never from the chest you open with a greater demonic key and from lockboxes. Otherwise they drop from lockboxes up to rank 9. Anything above that has been refined.

Hmm I think I've seen rank 8's and 9's for companion enchantments in lockboxes. Didn't realise the others could pop there too! Will have to stick my head into Castle Never sometime in the future then too!

    Appreciate the answer mate, thanks.

Rank 8 do come in the LB, not 9. 9 are only the stones for companions and not enchantments.

I'm still hoping to get a armor enchantment from the LB.

As has been said, rank 9+ are refined.
And a note on how expensive they are.
I laid it out for my wife.

For one rank 12, you need:
32 rank 8 plus the coal/pres wards dependent on your luck

Or for ones like the vorpals, negation, etc you'd need, if from scratch, for a level 12:
128 shards and 63 coal wards

And yeah, you read that right.
    SIXTY THREE COAL WARDS.

Best case scenario if buying coal wards with AD and with a coupon right now:
Your need roughly 275k ad PER coal ward.

So say a quarter mil each, that's 15 million ad in coal wards alone for a rank 12 vorpal, negation, etc

Granted you can get coal wards from celestial coffers.
I've gotten two, at a rate of about 20 opened coffers to one.

And I have actually gotten a rank 8 negation from a lockbox.
Which is theory saved me 8 shards a 3 coal wards on the climb to 12.

So it is possible to get it cheaper, but not reliable.

I know this digresses away from basic enchants like Azure, dark, silvery etc.
I know at a certain point it becomes more beneficial to just use coal wards over pres.
Rank 10 to 11 maybe? Think the chance rate is 3% there?
I know it was around 10% IIRC to get a couple rank 8s to 9s and I burned through around 30 pres wards on two.

So yeah, upgrading enchants is expensive and time consuming

Worse on the armor and weapon slots

The funny thing is, you can do all content with using 7. :)

8+ just raise your IL and give you a slight boost in stats.

You made an error with your math somewhere along the line. Assuming, I did not. I will break it down to be safe.

You need 17 coal wards and 32 shards plus other RP to get to 12. You can make 8 rank 7 with 8 wards and 32 shards. Combine the 7's with RP to make 4 rank 8 (4 wards). Combine the 8's with RP to make 2 rank 9 (2 wards) and combine the 9's with more RP to make a 10 (1 ward) and 2 more wards and lots and lots of RP to make the rank 11 and 12. Rank 11 and 12 upgrade do not require a matching enchantment unlike 8 through 10.

This isn't true. Even if you made it from scratch you'd need 32 shards and 17 coal wards for a Transcendent vorpal. You can usually find lesser enchantments for less than the cost of a coal ward because people turn coal wards from invoking into lesser enchants.

    A rank 12 enchantment only takes 4 rank 8s.

I stand corrected on my count.
I didn't know that 11 and 12 did NOT need a like enchant.

    That's actually really good news.

    That aside
That's still 4.7 mil for coals alone.
A lot better than I thought, but still steep.

And it continues to rise based on AD and Zen exchange.

Like I stated, you get a group of skilled and experienced players in 130 gear and using 7 enchantments and my bet is most can complete all content just fine.

Check the AH before making anything and keep the prices right in your head for all materials while doing so. A lot of times it won't make any sense to craft a rank 8 versus buying it off the AH for example, unless you are strapped for AD and have the materials handy already.

I also try and keep in mind the fact that refining Rank 7's all the way to a 10 is such an annoyingly painful, brutally unfun experience, that usually I'd pay a premium just to avoid it ;)

You are correct it is annoying.

25K for the mark, 4-5K for a single ward, and 3-5K per a rank 7 enchantment.

Cheap: 25K, 4K x 4 (just in case you fail a few times), 3K x 6 (need 1 to refine, 4 to refine into the 1 and 1 for moving it up from a rank 7 to a rank 8.

Total AD for a rank 8: 58K in AD - that is if you don't fail by the forth ward. I have faile 10 wards in a row, that was an additional 24K in AD for me. Opps.

So, plan ahead and what I do now is look in the AH first to see what things are going for and than buy the level rank 8 I can or if I can't find one, I go ahead and make the ones I need knowing it is costing me more than I want it to.

As for weapon and armor enchantments, forget, I don't even want to go there. LOL.
