Some tips for a returning player

elsumonnerelsumonner Member Posts: 31 Arc User
Hello everyone! I used to play this game a few time ago and i'm looking to come back to it. What has changed since icewind dale? Are the classes balanced and how much time i'll have to look at to get the top gear?

    Hello my friend,

There is a lot of things that have changed, depending on your class is how you should try to approach,
There is still a lot of grind you have to do, NWO will be the always the same way.
I'm also a new player returning from Module 3. but I returned the game on Mod. 9
The classes are still not fully balanced, but now all classes may have a place in a dungeon. and developers have been working this year to achieve it, so there is a small hope.
The grind to have the best equipment is insane, but there is no need to be top level to enjoy the game.
With a moderate grinding you should be able to enjoy the complete content of the game,

If you are returning from Ice Wind dale Module probably you are not level 70 yet.
The first thing you should do is grab the quests for Elemental Evil and Maze Engine campaigns to increase your level.
If you are able, purchase the best VIP membresy you can afford, is a good investment if you don't miss the daily key. plus if you reach at least level 4, traveling post makes your life easier.

is always good to see returning players, feel free to ask anything you want.

Regarding gameplay and tips to start, you can add me to your friends list to review your current situation in game.
The basic points you should do is to gear up with Enchantments rank 7 from the auction house, they are not expensive and
do skirmirshes and heroic encounters from Underdark to get Demonic Ichor, you can purchase nice equipment with thtat currency.

The most important tip: don't be over concerned with getting the "best" gear. Unless that's a personal priority for you - the bottom line is that it's not that important. If you PvP, that's different, but otherwise, upper 2k is just fine. The new DD requires 3.1 IL, but to be perfectly honest, the reward isn't with the effort - so I'd put getting into Fangbreaker fairly low on your priority list. Have fun! Look me up if your in need of a good guild or alliance!

Welcome back. The new mod, Icewind Dale Part Deux, I mean Storm King's Thunder just dropped. Its bigger and badder than the first time around (and I don't mean in a good way). Anyhow, you don't have to do the new mod. There's plenty of other things to do. Underdark is pretty good.

    CW build --> http://mmominds.com/2016/01/20/death-and-taxes-dps-cw-guide-mod-8/

This is an old but very good one. Basically run into the mob lay down "Icy Terrain" stun them with "Steal Time" zap those minions with "Chilling Cloud" hit the bossman with "Ray of Frost". This works great for large mobs. If you don't agree with me, there are other CW builds on the same site.

I recently returned as well, last played in Mod 4. One thing I've found to ease the pain of leveling to the new cap is to check out the old campaign stores for 'leveling' gear. Both Sharandar and Dread Ring campaign stores have blue armor sets that scale to your level. At level 61 they should be an upgrade for the old T2 sets. Sharandar also has Main Hands with weapon enhancement slots (Redcap and Of the Fey) which will serve well until you get an artifact weapon in Elemental Evil. Dread Ring also has older level 60 Artifact Belt and Cloaks (Legacy tab in menu) that will be superior to anything you find while leveling and can then be burned into the level 70 ones. All of these things are purchased solely with campaign currency, no AD required. (you can open the stores from anywhere by using the campaign button)

Some things to note, Weeklies give RAD now. Arcane Reservoir is set to level64 but if you know your class can be easily cleared at level 60. The game will insist the area is too hard for you but not really. Dread Ring has the Red Wizards quest that also yields AD, but the mobs there are actually going to be a challenge until you get close to level 70. Icewind Dale offers Biggrins Tomb but unless you're hardcore, save that for level 70 and try to find a partner or two.
